SK U x vv I Y ' rx X , V, n I ,. 1' Q Solt City-Kindergarten through 6 Ile Study of Cenlzafization In the sprung of 195O centraluzatuon of 10 local school dustructs was approved by the voters However the udea of centraluzatuon was not a new one ln 1928 when our present hugh school was buult the Board of Educatuon headed by M D Greene dustruct superuntendent of schools looked unto the possubuluty of centraluzatuon At the tume few schools were centraluzed and these had found the plan unfavorable ln 1943 the udea came up agaun and the school authorutues auded by the New York State educatlon department worked out a desurable program War condntuons such as pruorutues on buuldung materuals the scarcuty of qualufued teachers and the lack of proper supplues and equupment caused the plan to be laud aside untul a more suutable tume In 1948 a bug plan was proposed uncludung North Syracuse Mattydale Cucero Lsverpool and several other school dustructs However the need for expanded faculutues un North Syracuse bemg pressung plans were completed for those areas whule Luverpool was stull duscussung the meruts of the project ln September 1949 the local school trustees met at Albany wuth the offucuals of the State department There the trustees presented the facts and condutuons exustung un our dustruct and the 1943 plan was revused Thus 10 dustruct plan us the one we are now usung It uncludes the followung dustructs Clay2 Morgan Clay4 Euclud Clay8 Waterbury Clay9 Bettunger Clay 10 Elmcrest Clay 16 Woodard Salunal Luverpool Saluna2 Buckley Road Saluna 5 Cold Sprungs Road Saluna 6 Salt Cuty Recognutuon of the fact that there have been many changes un our way of luvung durung the past few years that our schools must furnush our chuldren wuth the educatuon whuch wull make them the best cutuzens for tomorrow us behund centraluzatuon The rapud uncrease un the number of pre school chuldren and the trend towards seekung homes un the suburban areas has crowded our present school buuldmgs The State of New York can assust un funancung the cost of school buuldungs un centraluzed dustructs Only by groupung chuldren from several dustructs can a broad educatuonal program be guven These are a few of the reasons why on May 23 1950 the qualufued voters of the school dustructs voted for the centraluzatuon of schools un Luverpool and the surround ung areas Sunce that tume ut has been necessary to use most of the churches un the area as temporary classrooms for grammar school chuldren The enrollment for 1951 was far above that expected In March the total was 1 569 students 478 of whom were un grades 7 through 12 lhugh and uunuor hugh schooll The proposed plan for new school faculutues us beung closely followed In the fall of 1950 the voters of the dustruct agreed to float a bond ussue to cover the cost of an addutuon to the Salt Cuty School However what wuth the present condutuons of scarcuty of materuals due to the Korean sutuatuon ut us not expected that ut wull be ready for occupancy untul 52 The plan also calls for a new buuldung and for the remodelung of the present hugh school buuldung Another aspect of the plan transportatuon for the enture area comes under control of the central school dustruct At present the school owns a statuon wagon a bus and a puck up truck wuth more buses to be purchased The program plans also for an uncrease un teacher personnel un the enture area The staff un some regular subjects wull be enlarged and addutuonal teachers w1ll be secured for specualuzed vocatuonal courses such as vocatuonal agruculture undustrual art vocatuonal homemakung and busuness The plan provudes for and us provudung a modern educatuonal program staffed and equupped accordung to latest standards Although the area unvolved creates one of the smallest centraluzed dustructs of any school dustruct un thus state the school populatuon us un the upper 15 percent of all New York State central school dustructs By thus centraluzed plan we are rapudly becomung one of the most modern school dustructs un the system ' 1 . , I u na . .
