Hi-Times to our sponsor Miss Ann Rowan Calhoun, whose encour- agement, kind support, and faithful leadership has been our greatest in- spiration. Y -V - Dear Reader: We have had fun preparing our yearbook this year, Let us tell you something about it. Taloma and Ioan got lost on the beach when they went to Porto Rico for the prophecy. Barbara Jean has had a rash of black spots, donlt be alarmed they are only india ink from her cartoon drawings. If Edwinia smelled peculiar at times, it was only rubber cement for pasting pictures. .Tudy and .Tohn L. have spots on their tongues, thick spots from talking---- Mister, buy an Ad---Please, only 520, 510, 5155, SZ.5O, not to mention the corns on their feet from tramping from place to place. Paula and Betty Lou have developed candid camera eyes. If they look at you with a gleam, it is only to imagine you on their snap-shot page. If you hear Mary Atwell muttering to herself as she goes through the halls, don't be alarmed. You would mutter too if you had to ride herd on a forgetful photographer.. When Ted and O. C. started to write the will, O. C. did not have a dad-nabbed thing he wanted to give away. Myrtle says she needs glasses, don't you think anyone who read as many of Stevenson's Familiar Quotations as she did would need something stronger than glasses '? Bonnie can sympathize with the dog with fleas, only she had money trouble, double entry bookkeeping has nothing on her, she counts on her fingers now, just as a result of yearbook finance. Ted and O. C. can now prove to Miss Hicks that they can draw a line straight or other wise, for proof see the copy for this publication. Joyce, Mary Atwell, and Barbara are going to invent a typewriter that spells for it- self, spaces mecanically, and erases automatically. We may play with our fingers and toes now, we may have rubber ceme'nt in our hair and ink under our finger nails, but we had fun. We hope you enjoy our yearbook. The Staff Z Marc! of gjoluca hon MR. I R A ' ' 54 wa 5169, In May, l96O, we, Taloma Jean and Joan, planned to take a short vacation trip. We decided to visit our former superintendent, Mr. C. J. Moseley, who is now living on the Island of Porto Rico. We sailed from New York harbor on a very pleasant May day and arrived a few days later to receive a very warm welcome from Mr. and Mrs. Moseley and their seven children. After we had rested and had lunch,we were invited to see a program over their ALL WORLD TELEVISION SET. First we dailed Radio City, New York, and to our surprise we saw O. C. Owen, now a famous public speaker, making public addresses daily from the R. C. A. Building. After the speech by Mr. Owen a broadcast was brought from the Stork Clubg there we saw Barbara Stolsworth appearing in a startling form of the snake dance. She didn't seem very interested in the dance but was more concerned with a rich, bald prospect on the front row. We were interrupted by a news flash, a big Eastern Airliner had crashed while trying to land, and the air hostess, Miss Betty Ridenour, was the only one not injured. We again turned the dial and heard a highly ad- vertised Hybrid Seed Corn announcement. To our astonishment John L. Con- rad, now the owner of the well-known Jim Ellis farm, was sponsoring it. Next we saw the famous Powers model, Myrtle Shocklee, showing the new slender- izing fashions created by Paula Payne Nevitt. Both Paula and Myrtle are well- known all over the world for their famous dress styles. We then picked up a small newspaper, which turned. out to be the McLean County News, sent to the Moseleys by a friend in Livermore. The first thing we read in the paper was that Mr. Kenneth Cobb and his newly acquired wife, the former Miss Anna Dean Morgan, were honeyrnooning in Cairo, Egypt. We then read that Mr. Ted Owen had recently taken the job as superintendent of Livermore High School and his wife, the former Miss Janice Crume, was teaching algebra in the same school. We turned to the advertisement page and saw where Miss Joyce Messenger was a saleslady for Buick automobilesg she is employed by her fiance, Mr. Jim Brown. Then we read where Mary Atwell Stevens was the owner of a cab company with her date bureau on the side. On another advertisement we saw that Edwina Johnson and her husband Were operating the Easy Spin-dry Laundry in Washington, D. C. Before ret1ringMr. Moseley told us that our senior sponsor, Miss Calhoun, was now an opera singer. After singing at the Metropolitan in New York, she would make a European tour at the request of the King of England. We were awakened early the next morning by a small boat which brought the mail. Mr. Moseley received a letter from another one of our class mates, Judy Girvin. telling how she had been disappointed in love and was now the owner of an,an- - 11- -i-.1 4 tn HP WRST: tique shop. She wrote all the news from Livermore saying she had recently visited the former Miss Bonnie Hicks, who married the mayor of Nuckols and is living on a small farm where she is specializing in plant life and bugs, For our future entertainrnent Mr. Moseley insisted that we visit the village fortune teller before we left the island. The fortune teller read our palms and told us that she would mail our fortunes in a letter. When We got safely home after our pleasant visit, our fortunes were waiting for us. The letter read as follows: Dear Joan: l can tell by your charming voice that you are a singerg you have been appearing as Canary with the Hot Licks Corn Fed Band, which appears in all the larger cities. May you have a successful year! And your friend Taloma is now living ona small farm near Buel with her husband. They have three little Ayers and are noted as the owners of the best breed of black angus calves in the state. DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE FRESHMEN? 10 f- . ' r - -11 Efifi N l Wx. , 'I ln September of 1946, twenty-nine ambitous green freshmen entered the doors of L.H.S. with Mr. C. J. Moseley as our sponsor. We helped the sopho- mores to put on a very successful Christmas program. During the year .Toe Frasure quit school. We joined in all the clubs and had a very pleasant year. The following Spetember, twenty-five of the band returned as the silly sophomores with Mr. Walter Chapman, the new coach, as our sponsor. Three of our boys, Raymond Barnett, Douglas Hicks and Maurice Smith. did not join our class again. In October Billy Garrett moved to Evansville to enter school. At the beginning of the last semester John L. Conrad came from Calhoun School to join our class. Marylois Shocklee and Doris Woosley left our class and married. Barbara Morris moved to Birmingham, Alabama. Barbara Friz- zell and Londa Scott quit school. , Back to the halls again in '48, nineteen of us resumed our journey as jolly juniors. Miss Ann Rowan Calhoun was our sponsor. Bobby Thomas, Doris Patrick and Atta Vincent did not start with us. Kenneth Cobb, who served in the army for fourteen months, joined our class. Laquita Boyken and Londa Scott started to school again and joined our class, later they and Carol Matthews quit school. Earlene Willis moved to Evansville to enter school. On April 8, 1949, we presented our junior play By Any Other Name, which was a huge success. Our four junior boys with the help of three eighth grade boys won the class basketball tournament. Our class sold magazines and the money we earned was to be used in buying a motion picture machine or a tape recording machine. In May we ordered our class rings and pins. We helped the seniors with their class night program. Again, and for the last time, we entered L.H.S. in September of 1949.There were only fifteen of us this time. four boys and eleven girls. On the thirteenth of September our rings and pins came. We really felt like seniors then. We decided to start on our annual early, so we could have it published before school was out. The first week in October we ordered our calling cards and invitations. In November we began to work very industriously on our annual. Our last in- stallment was sent off the last week of February. 26 Y., M. ,., . ....4.m....-.. , . ...s I.
