LHS students dressed in Renaissance Fashion as gentlemen in tights with feathers in their hats and ladies in long dresses. All were enchanted by the magical atmosphere surrounding them. Singing, plays, musicians, and witches all cast their air of mystery and good food was sold from peasants as the visitors walked backwards in time. TOP LEFT: Which witch is this? Nlrs. Victoria Stadelhofer once again successfully directed the cast. THE TAVERN was a melodrama which was centered around a mysterious vagabond. lt took place in a lonely tavern one wild stormy night, when a woman, the State Governor and his family were help up. Several people were suspected of the crime and the mysterious vagabond took infinite delight in observing developments as they took place about him. When suspense reached an almost unbearable climax the vagabond was at last located by the keepers of a nearby Sanitarium and it is learned that he, the madman. was responsible for the vastly amusing and complicated series of misunderstandings. The 1971-72 year was no exception. Simple skits, such as the all-girl football team and the little old lady Cowboy fan, led to screaming laughter that could be heard clear across the campus. Competition yells and beat 'em banners also stirred up spirit in the fans and team members, too. Following an indoor conclusion many of the rallies were continued outside with music from the pep band and the cheer and dance routines done by the Cheerleaders and Pom Pon girls. To top off the occasion, some sort of mascot of the opposing team would be strung up by the crowds of onlookers to ensure our school spirit for the tremendous up-coming game. J.V. Excellence in musical competition Livermore High's A Cappella strives for perfection and for this reason it has remained one of the best A Cappella choirs around. Under the direction of music instructor, James Heiner, Livermore's A Cappella has received ratings of excellence in singing. sight reading, and so forth in numerous singing festivals and other musical competitions. Each year. members of A Cappella that wish to, try out for a singing group called Madrigals. This group competes against other groups from other A Cappella choirs. Once again, Madrigals have proven promising as is the tradition of the LHS music department. This year's Mixed Chorus is one of the best ever. With strong voices the Mixed Chorus has accomplished a great deal including numerous performances. The performance with A Cappella at the Livermore-Amador football game was very well received and really fabulous. JE! Editor Jan Firth faced the problem of writing a newspaper with a staff of only 10. But by doubling up, with some students responsible for as many as three different jobs, all the deadlines were met. One of the novelties of the EL VAQUERITO is that it is produced entirely by the students, from the writing to the printing. Between the staff and the advanced offset class, an average issue takes four weeks to produce. The new advisor this year, lVlrs. Lynne Graham, did an excellent job taking over for lVlr, Al Marcetti. Often students would be found gathered around her desk, classwork forgotten, listening to one of her latest adventures. lVlr. The delegation ran Pam Holten for the office of Vice- President. Pam tied with Cynthia Reeves of Oakdale but lost in the run-off elections. The theme with the purple gangster touch, was carried out through the favors and campaign material with purple velvet garters and a diary of a Gangster in a purple cover. The newly elected Asilomar girls chose Sue Jenkins to run as their delegate for the office of Treasurer. Jeff Trigger Demonstrates Leadership To be a good student body officer you must be able to work harmoniously with other people. This year, a special problem arose because of the age gap of the officers. However, because of interclass communication, LHS had a Junior, Jeff Trigger, elected Student Body President. Jeff. assisted by Robert Olken. undertook the jobs of running noon meetings, and assemblies. A constitutional ammendment last year gave the treasurer more responsibilities. Bruce Taylor executed this job with great enthusiasm. An executive staff or a student council could not function without a Secretary. Susan Walker. doing a fantastic job this year. helped immensely. The ever- popular Film making class was open and many aspiring film makers worked very hard in the production of their self- financed projects. A new class, called Communication in the 7O's was added to the curriculum and the students had a great time during their exploration of the world of modern communications methods. Classes in journalism, taught by Mrs. Lynne Graham. produced the award winning El Vaquerito and the publications class completed this yearbook. Many literature courses were offered, covering a variety of topics and. for the college prep-minded there was English Composition. Breaking off their 8th year of being EBAL champs, this year's grapplers had to share the glory with arch rival, Amador. Coach Jack Lopez led his matmen to cover the year at a 8-2 standing. Even being co-champs with Amador, LHS Varsity team defeated the Purple and Gold at both mat contests with 27-20 and 34-15 scores respectively. At the end of the season, a banquet was held, trophies and medals were given. Soph Larry Olsen received a trophy for the most takedowns, and Senior Glenn Cunningham was given the most inspirational award. Being the most valuable wrestler went to Senior Dave Willis while Junior Pat Brown and Soph Larry Olsen were the most improved. Ths most match points, 126, went to Senior Mike Dimon and Senior Jim Boswell had the most team points, 50. EBAL Championship Goes to LHS JV Making 1972 another EBAL championship year, the Junior Varsity pulled through with a 9-1 victory. Wrestlers were defeated only once by cross-town rival, Granada, When the two schools met for the second time, Livermore proved who was numer 1 with a 40-13 score. With Coach Ron Rose training these matmen, the team has not only won dual meets but tournaments just as well. The J,V. wrestlers took third at Silver Creek out of 32 schools, first in the league Novice tournament, and second at the frosh tournament. J.V.'s Swing Toward Super Season This year's JV baseball team, through it was young, had a chance to take the league championship. Mr. Kevin Drake, head coach, felt that the new freshmen players were, for the most part, strong athletes. The team had also many good players returning from the previous year's team. Although most of them were sophomores, they had the advantage of having played together on a LHS team. The team played against several strong opponents this season, most of whom relied on experienced junior players. They are filled with a variety of distinct emotions, new people, different classes, and crazy activities. lVlost important is that feeling of independence that increases with every year. These are the times you'll reflect on most-those things you'll probably end up telling your own kids about a couple dozen times. From all these experiences you can separate the good memories from the not-so-good memories and hopefully, in the end, have a greater understanding of who you are and where you are going. You'll be ready to strike out for yourself as an individual. Uniqueness is the greatest quality any person can attain, and only through experiencing yourself and those around you can you determine this uniqueness. To those of you who have found your own individuality, or you who are about to find it, we dedicate this book. You are very special people. Anyone can be a carbon copy-be your own person. Contribute your own little bit of distinction to the world, for you have something to offer, something no one else could ever hope to possess-yourself. Sue Aceves Co-Editor Have there ever been times when you have felt left out, dejected, or just plain not wanted? I am sure that this has happened to everyone at LHS at one time or another. These feelings tend to make you believe that you are too insignificant to matter, that you really aren't wanted or needed. But this is not so! Just think about it for a while- what would happen if you weren't involved in that certain club, or that sport you like so well, or even some of your classes? They would be different, not like the club, sport, or class it is now. Things might not have happened if you hadn't been there to pull it through. So you see, even though there are hundreds of students here at LHS, you are you. You are the One Among Many. This thought is what the 1972 EL VAOUERO staff has tried to express and carry throughout the book.
