Whether they have linguistic abilities or the know how of the mechanic, their insatiable curiosity will lead them to investigate the secrets of the oceans' depths, to learn the facts concern- ing outer space, and ultimately to conquer pover- ty, disease, and ignorance. They will master new arts ol community living: the world, as well as the smaller social units, will be their com- munity. -:. Miss Hunt was one ofthe exlrentely able trio ol' college preparatory course tearhers, now no longer on the roster ol' the high school l'at'ulty. The group has departed by reason ol' death or retirement: Miss Naomi Maher of the English Department died in lSl52. while Mr. Sprague Whitney ol the Mathematics and Science Departments retired in l955. ln their day L.F.l'l.S, probably gained its tnost outstanding prestige from the achievements ol' stud- ents who went lortlt to some of the best universities and rolleges ol' tlte nation. Miss I-lnnt's painstaking work in preparation ol her students for advanced rollrgt' work in Latin and French was recognized as superior, both by local administratitnt and by college personnel. Her students at college and their parents could then fully realize the thorough prep- aration in the clztssivztl field that sttclt at L'UllSl'lCllllOllS instructor had provided. ll could be safely predirted that her honor students would attain college honors anywhere. Miss Hunt was a Colhy College gratluate, earned her Master ol Arts Degree at Bates College in lflflll. ln 1928 she attended fduring her sunnner vacation, Le Muntcel, -louy-lin- llosas, near Paris, Frxntee. Having retired, Miss Hunt is now living in town and enjoying her apartment on Union Street. I8 Accepting boundless responsibilities, SCHOOL Al1lkllNIS'l'RA'l'lON. HIGH SCHOOL SURVEYS IMPORTANT During the 1955-56 school year two surveys of the local high school were made. The State Department of Education studied all phases of the school, including its facilities, cur- riculum faculty, school activities. and instructional program. This survey was needed to gain approval from the State Department of Education which will, in due time, issue papers of accreditation to the schools that meet accretlitation requirements, A Columbia University fTeachers Collegej survey was conducted for the particular purpose of allocating money from The International Paper Comp:my's educational trust fund to high schools in towns where the I. P. Company mills operatic. Both surveys indicated thc need of improved physical facilities. The school administration has devoted many hours to alerting townspeople con- cerning the recommendations of these survey groups, and the absolute need of meeting new accreditation requirements. Some time earlier the girls had finished checking the photo sheets, and their lists of propsg an- nouncements had been made ready for the public address system: the boys were abso- lutely familiar with the picture schedule, had hgured out a few short cuts in case of emer- gency. Because ladders, flash bulbs, furniture, and other props were in the right place, the phologrupltic work seemed to the casual ob- server to proceed in a leisurely fashion. Ac' tually a very large number of pirtures were takeng the student announcer kept the student groups ready at the right timeg and the camera subjects felt amused and always at ease. So a sufcessful day of picture taking resulted.
