HA season of superlatives could well describe the 1952 football season as the Isaac Litton Lions roared to the greatest football year in the history of the school. Cliniaxing the fall by being selected the second best aggregation in the state, the Lions, under the able tutelage of Coaches Bob Cummings, John Wfitt, Ronald lN7ebb, and Herschel Moore, ended the regular season's play with a record of nine wins and one defeat-the lone loss being to the state's top-ranking team. The eleven closed an impressive year by de- feating Father Ryan's team in the annual Clinic Bowl tilt Thanksgiving Day in Vanderbilt's Dudley Stadium. Behind the vicious blocking and tackling of a stalwart forward wall, one of the hnest backhelds ever to perform on Hume Marshall Field paced the Lions in their soar to Hhigher ground. Seniors performing in their final season at Litton were Co-Captains Rip Nix and Charles Harmon, Gray Potter, George Volkert, Jerry Kemp, Larry Wray, L. F. McClellan, X'Vilson l'Vest, Wfalter Reasoner, Billy Belcher, Billy Mc- Mahon, Ralph McDonald, Gary Morgan, and john Gordy. Meriting positions on various all-star teams were George Volkert Qthe first player in the his- tory of Nashville high school football to make the All-American squadj, john Gordy, Gray Potter, L. F. McClellan, Rip Nix, and Jerry Kemp. This most eventful football season was ofhcial- ly closed at the football banquet with the pres- entation of the trophies designating Litton as the Wilmer ol' the N.I.L.'s Class AA division.
