TUNE! Memories Words by Linda Spafford and Anna Mae Rioux 30 Z9 of 17 b of In the fall of 1954, as our class became Freshmen, we didn't enter the new school that we have today. Instead, we entered the old Kilburn building as a result of the destruction of our high school by fire the previous April. We seldom got a chance to see the Grand Old Seniors as they went to school in the morning session, and we attended the afternoon session. Nevertheless, the Seniors got their chance to meet us the night of Freshmen Initiation. They had us march through the Main Street and then gave us the works at the Town Hall. Al- though at the time we did considerable grumbling, as we look back now, we wouldn't have missed it for anything. At our first class meeting, we elected NVilliam Weber, President, Michael Hennessey, Vice-President, john Southard, Treasurer, Linda Spafford, Secretary, and Barbara Brazier, Student Council rep- resentative. Our class advisors were Mr. Kenneth MacPherson and Mr. Bernard Bouchard. After the Seniors so generously gave us our first dollar, we went about mak- ing many more. Our first money making adventure was a dance in October with Peter Cole's Orchestra. The Freshmen all got out and worked eagerly to make this dance a success. Our treasury continued to grow as we had a food sale and took orders for school emblems. In February we had our St. Patrick's Dance. lVe decorated the Town Hall for the occasion, and everyone was pleased with the results. As Sophomores we entered the new high school building and spent many after-school hours investigating every corner, corridor and inviting door until we felt we knew the building by heart. There was certainly a sharp contrast between the new school and the Kilburn building. The officers we elected for that year were President, Michael Hennessey, Vice-President, Linda Spaffordg Treasurer, Eric Hampson, Secretary, joel Durantyg and Student Council representatives, Lucy Hannah and Hollis Burgess. Our advisors were Mr. Lester Shiere and Mr. George Gray. Our major money making project that year was the traditional Sadie Haw- kins Dance. During the Easter season, we raffied off an Easter Ham. Our junior Class officers were President, Michael Hennessey, Vice-President, Marilyn Corey, Secretary, john Southardg Treasurer, Hollis Burgessg and Student Council representatives, Larry Moore and Robert Allard. Lee Gregory was elected Student Council Vice-President. With the help of our advisors, Mr. MacPherson and Mr. Roland Smith, we planned many activities to earn money. lVe sold score programs, candy, and soft drinks at basketball games, sponsored record hops, and sold book covers. When we were offered the chance to sell refreshments at the Easter Ball, we took advantage of this opportunity to increase our treasury. For the social event of the year, our junior Prom, we chose the theme Ori- ental Gardens. Amid an oriental setting of cherry blossoms and japanese lan- terns, a memorable evening of dancing was enjoyed by all. VVe felt very honored that the State selected two of our classmates, Michael Hennessey and Robert Allard, to attend the National Student Council Convention in New Mexico. On june 12, after the Class Night exercises, we gave a recep- tion for the Seniors. To close the year, a picnic was enjoyed at Forest Lake. In September of 1957, entering for the last time, the iVise Old Seniors chose the class officers, President, Michael Hennessey, Vice-President, Patricia Richardson, Secretary, Elizabeth Byron, Treasurer, john Southardg and Student Council representatives, Sally Roper and Robert Allard. Lee Gregory was elected Student Council President. Our advisors were Mr. William Morris and Mr. An- thony Sarausky. For Freshmen Initiation, we endeavored to present a new idea. A variety show patterned after several popular television programs, in which all the Fresh- men participated, was selected. This entertaining program was followed by the traditional Freshman Hop. On November 20 and 21, we presented our Senior Play Curtain Going Up, a situation comedy about the problems of a Senior class preparing for its annual play. VVe are greatly indebted to Mr. Morris and Miss Nancy Ledoux for their guidance in the production of our play. ' As the time for our class trip drew near, we tried many means of raising money. We sold ice-cream during noon hours and at games, sold book covers, and held record hops. VVe sponsored movies since the town theatre was closed. Our Christmas Dance was a most enjoyable social event. The month of january was spent working vigorously for the oncoming XVinter Carnival. We felt very re- warded when our candidate, Patricia Richardson, was crowned Queen. As this yearbook goes to press, we are all looking forward to an exciting trip to New York City and perhaps rather reluctantly to our graduation from the dear old School on the Hill. 31 f ' 'ff- af Z 22 f 2 E- ? 1' J- f In fm Z 7 4 4 4 0 6 . Miss Anna Seavey, the coach, was assisted by Miss Bernice Burlock of Bethlehem, a prac- tice teacher from P.T.C. for the first half of the year. The manager was Patricia Richard- son. Band and orches- tra candidates are auditioned by judges in three different towns during December and from those who qualify at the auditions, the band and orch- estra personnel are selected. Places of holding concerts are chosen from invitations extended to the music educators, by cities or towns, at their june meeting. The mu- sic educators, by vote, select the town of their choice. The state is divided into three sections - north, central, and south -- and usually ac- ceptances rotate from one section to another. Littleton All Staters this year were all seniors, four of whom were veterans with two or more years experience in All State. The one represent- ative in the orchestra was Carolyn Colby who played solo cornet. There were seven students participating in the chorus: Judith Ross, lst so- prano, Patricia Houle, 2nd soprano, Patricia Richardson and Ieannette Roy, altos, Robert Al- lard and Craig Cushing, tenors, and Eric Hamp- son, bass.
