DEDICATED TO MR. G.C. BALLIETT The dedication of the 1963 CORLIONIS is designed to be a tribute to the teaching ability of Mr. G. C. Balliett, and to the man himself. It is considered a talent when a teacher can create in students a definite interest in a subject. Contemporary civilization is a course from which more is derived when the student applies individual initiative because of his own interest in the subject matter. At the present time when knowledge of world affairs, economics, and the arts is of increasing value to the individual, an instructor who can create in students this interest is to be commended. Mr. Balliett is such fan instructor. ' It is also considered conducive to learning whena student feels that he is being- challenged. Mr. Balliett has the unique capacity to institute in the individual this impression. G. C. Balliett is a man set apart from others. He is among the few who have the strength of character to follow their own directives and convictions. In this age of conformity, this attribute alone places a man above others. A man's wit is -usually a measure oi' the man. Mr. Balliett's acute mind emits a quick, sharp, and occasionally satirical wit, Although his wit is often somewhat corny, it must be acknowledged that even .corny humor is demonstrable of a unique type of intellect. College students rarely fail to express their gratitude for having been in Mr. Ba1liett's class. The experience and preparation for college whichthey gained has provento be invaluable. 1 Our generation has been charged with grave responsibilities in the world of the future. And yet it has been ascertained that we are unprepared to accept the responsibilities and to solve the problems facing us. In this respect, the value of instructors such as Mr. Balliett cannot be fully appreciated. This is 'a dedication of a book...to a brilliant man...as a tribute to his teaching ability and to his character. A ,

PREFACE You as students have just spent a year in this high school. It is contended tltat only those who relinquished part of their life during this year truly profited from this period. 'And of those whose epitaph must read I wandered without purpose through the halls of Littleton Sr. High it can be said that they lost this vital year in their life. Those who left part of their life reaped returns for it many times over. 'An integral part of these benefits are the memories accumulated over the period. The 1963 CORLIONIS is an attempt to recapture some of these memories. If you merely wandered aimlessly through the halls, the photographs on the following pages may be unfamiliar. This book will then only be a monument to your lost year. But if you relinquished part of your life during the preceding year, then the 1963 CORLIONIS should recount this portion of your life. If so, then now take time to wander through the pages of this volume. Each individual of our generation will experience more in his lifetime than did his pred- , A ecessors. The challenges will be unrivaled, the problems more complex, and the events more rapid in coming. This will require that we truly live each day, not just wander through them. As your life nears its conclusion, apart relinquished here, a part relinquished there, may your memories be so ast that you are unable to wander through them all.
