Jim ouffza 1401.1 yufwm The first Future Farmers of America Chapter of Little York was incorporated on December 27 1940 Such names as Melvin Parsons as President Don Smith Treasurer Howard Nelson V1C6PFeS1deHt Robert Roney Reporter John Osborn Secretary and Don Welch as Sentinel formed the executive commlttee of that f1rst chapter Other names included Don Bertelson Clyde Campbell Ted Cooper Robert Earp Jack Gar land Leslie Gu1l1nger Richard Nicol and Ed Smith as members This chapter was active until the end of the 1941 42 school year when the work of the Ag department was tem porar1ly halted because no teacher was available In August 1946 the department was re activated and a new F F A charter was issued on January 18 1947 The officers were Don Lee President Tom Stevens VICE President Charles Hamilton Secretary Howard Kinney Treasurer Billy Darrah Re porter and Everett Peterson Sentinel Other members were Raymond Stevens Eugene Galusha Dean Addleman John Bertelson D1ck Olson Bob Blackman Don Brownlee Jim Free Richard K1nney George La1rd John McIntyre and Niven McVey The F F A IS a self supporting organization l1m1ted to boys studying vocational agriculture 1n high schools and carrying on a program of farmlng Boys can retain their 3Ct1VE membership boys can advance from the Greenhand degree by meeting certain minimum requirements to the Chapter Farmer Degree then to the State Farmer Degree then to the American Farmer Degree There IS one State Farmer for approxi mately every 20 F F A members Illinois with around 495 chapters and 18000 mem bers had 17 American Farmers last year The local chapter can grant only Greenhand and Chapter Farmer Degrees The State Farmer Degree 1S conferred by the State As soc1at1on and the Amer1can Farmer Degree by the National Association Little York has had three State Farmers-Jim Free Jim Reynolds and D1ck Clark The chapter has never had an American Farmer This year our membershlp IS 28 one State Farmer D1Ck Clark seventeen Chap ter Farmers Dean Armstrong B1lly B1dd1e B111 Boock Bob Darrah Harold Kinney Phil Larson Richard Montgomery Andy Olson Kenneth Phillips Rondal McVey Franklin Campbell Charles Earp Paul Fredr1ckson Bob Free Dick Hess John Knupp and Jim Booth Green hands are B111 Damewood Arthur Davies Larry Fredr1ckson Clyde Goff Neal Martin Jim Melton Dale Ross Billy Stokes John Perrin and Terry Lescher There are 10 Greenhands The primary purpose of the F F A IS to develop boys for better leadership and to attempt to make better farmers because farming IS so much more compllcated and competitive than ever before The old theory that anybodv can be a farmer IS as wrong as anything as can be therefore all the aCt1V1t19S of the F F A and vocatlonal agriculture are deslgned not to make more farmers but to make better farmers FORTY FIVE I J . , .
