Our first council meeting resulted in the election of the following officers: Tom Bonlkowske, president: Tom Hoffmann, vice-presidentg and Mary Klapper, seo- retary-treasurer. We engaged in many activities during the year. Besides straightening our many pro- blems here in school, we worked on a good sportsman- ship float for Homecoming, and we sponsored a drive for CARE during the Christmas season. Led by a star-studded group of seniors and ably assisted by some fine Junior and sophomore talent, Coach Len De Baker's boys stormed thr all opposition, finishing the season with a perfect slate of seven victories and no defeats For their exploits, the team was rated highly by state newspapers all season and wound up 1 the press polls as one of only 13 undefeated, untied teams in the state. Indicative of their offensive and defensive strength, the fighting Wolves amassed 182 point to their opponents' 533 gained a total of 1934 yards to the opponents' 8003 out-first-downs the enemy, 103 to 423 and punted only 10 times all season, forcing their opponents into pun formation 23 times. Behind Quarterback Tom Hoffmann, who directed the team very skillfully, Don Craig and Sophc more Dave Peterson were the chief ground gainers, gaining over 700 of the team's yards betwee them for an average of better than six yards per try. Hoffmann's favorite passing targets wer and Arlin Becker, who caught 21 passes for 360 yards: and fullback John Baffin, who caught 2 for 235 yards. Hoffmann and Becker each scored 7 touchdowns to lead scoring, although Tom' ll extra points gave him a slight edge. A total of 8 boys scored at least one touchdown in th well-balanced scoring attack. The high point of the season was, of course, the Homecoming game with Waupaca, which th Wolves won very very handily, 32-O. Defensive play was superb as the Comets were held to minus yardage for the game. The Wolves' powerful 8-man line, spearheaded by Dave Sturm, Alle Bradway, Verlyn Strebe, Alfred Thiel, and Lee Oppor drove through constantly to nail Waupaca' ball carriers before they were able to get started. Perhaps the most memorable play of the season, and one that will long live in the memory c L.W.H.S. was the last-second scoring play at Marion which gave us a 7-0 victory over the Pigec team. A pass from John Baffin to Tom Hoffmann did the trick, and our perfect record was saved The Wolves dominated the first all-conference team with five selections--center Dave Sturm tackles Allen Bradway and Verlyn Strebeg quarterback Tom Hoffmann, ana halfback Don cra1g. . total of 19 boys were awarded letters for the season, among them all ten of the seniors on th squad. Teammates selected Don Craig as their Most Valuable Player and Tom Hoffmann as Honoran Captain of this year's team. -5u-
