In this way, you may share, some- what, our joys, sorrows, our fun, and, shall I say--foolishness ,vi ' ,ID M .1 K' ,- Dedication We the class of '52 lovingly dedicate this number of the Tipi to our coach, Wm. T, Beasley whose excellent coaching has resulted in perhaps the most successful basketball season ever enjoyed in Little Sioux basketball circles. We further hope that, as his Elgin watch ticks off the seconds that slowly make the years, that he will remember us as we shall remember him. We further wish to dedicate this edition of our yearbook to all who love the basketball game and who have contributed in any way to our success, ' X enema omcs I M- T ' Bl:-1-u - ,un ull MR, S, W, MADISON Superintendent MRS. It was planted and started growing on September 2, 194-0, The Board of Education chose Miss Irene Swanson as its first caretaker and by the end of the year, with much watering, trimming, and care it had nine small branches of which Janice Alton and Marian Pippitt were members of the 1952 graduating class, The next year, since Miss Swanson had resigned from the caretaking position, Geraldine Brinker assumed the responsibility, and although one branch dropped off, three new ones were gained, Soon the Tree of 1952 was three years old and although it was growing in strength it sprouted one new branch, partly replacing the two that had dropped off. During its fourth and fifth year the tree had Mrs, Lena Pippitt for a caretaker and though it was well cared for, only four branches survived, In its sixth year, with Gertrude Edmonds caring for it, the -'tree began to grow again gaining three new branches, among which was Anne McColley, who is one of the present graduation class, However, one was lost. As the tree continued to grow in strength during its seventh year, Mrs. Edmonds again cared for it, When it became' eight years of age, its size was increased by the addition of Bill Harl, Betty Wagner and Mrs, Harry Smith were its caretakers and helped to prepare it for the next four years, As it started its ninth year the Tree of 1952 had grown so well that now it needed extra caretakers, Superintendent E, B, Fritz, and his helpers, Principal Vada Glasser, Maude Olney, and John Rice, were chosen to nurture the tree of ten branches, who were Janice Alton, Donnie Bohall, Evelyn Carbaugh, Bill I-larl-, Dale Heistand, Anne McColley, Harry Mikkleson, George O'Day, Marian Pippitt, and Bonnie Towne. Again the caretakers were changed--this time with Superintendent C, W, Daniels, Principal Vada Glasser, Coach C. C, Zalonka, and M, D. Drake, For two years the tree grew, gaining three new branches, among which were Goldie Taylor, and Lonnie Hussing, but lost several, leaving it with only eight branches, The Tree of 1952 now twelve years old, found as its caretakers, Superintendent S, W. Madison, Principal Vada Glasser, who had been with it throughout the past four years, Coach W, T, Beasley and L, E. Lindstrom. The eight branches that still remain consisted of Janice Alton, Donnie Bohall, Bill Harl, Lonnie Hus sing, Anne McColley, Harry Mikkleson, Marian Pippitt, and Goldie Taylor, who were looking forward to graduation and a life of memories of the activities enjoyed in L.S.H.S. Heirs To the Throne . We, the Senior Class of 1952, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be our last will and testament and we hereby appoint Mr. S, W. Madison to be chief executor of said will, Anne McColley wills to Pat her ability to get and then lose her boy friends, With regret, Anne leaves Dean and Harlan, Ylonda Hussing leaves to Marilyn and Charlene her ability to hold a man, To Betty she wills her ability to draw the right thing at the right time. Donald Bohall wishes to leave his ability to get by with setting the clock up to Dean. To Harlan and Phyllis he leaves his ability to get out of work, Janice Alton leaves her ability to slide down the fire escape to Charlene and her beautiful voice to Patty. Goldie Taylor wishes to leave her pleasant smile to Phyllis, To Max, she leaves her quiet ways, Bill Harl wills his good driving ability to Max Qwatch the ditches, kidl, To Elaine and joan, he leaves his ability to get kicked out of class, Mafiian Pippittileaves her basketball ability to Marilyn and to joan goes her glamorous figure, Harry Mikkleson wills to the five freshwomen his ability to write and deliver notes Kas if they need itl. To Elaine and Betty goes his will touargue, To the Faculty, we sorrowfully leave the school house, which is still standing-- by some miracle, To the juniors, we leave our empty seats and our desks, which are full of paper To the Sophomores, we leave the pleasant thought that someday they will graduate--if they work as hard as we did. To the Freshmen, we leave the privilege of initiating some Freshmen in the not too distant future. To Mr. Grandgenett, we leave the varnish which he so thoughtfully put in the soap container, We wish to thank Mr, Madison for being our sponsor during our Senior year, Signed, published, and declared by the above as their last will and testament. Witnessed by Mr, S, W. Madison, Mrs. Vada Glasser, Mr, W. T, Beasley, and Mr. Lester Llndstrom. I As The Years Go By This is Station L.S,T.V, giving you news of the world and some of our famous people in it. On this beautiful May morning in 1962, we wish to dedicate this program to the class of 1952 on this, the tenth anniversary of their graduation, Harry Mikkleson, after graduating from high school, won a tour to New York, There his plans for his future life were rounded out and he is now outlining his presidential campaign for 1968. At 'the present time, he is in Washington helping the president settle the present coal strike, To quote the presidential prospect, lt's time the Republicans took over, Lets all support him in the 1968 election! Harry is very honored by the fact that his daughter, Carol, who was named for one of his old friends, is playing in the film The Sophisticated Lady. It is now being featured at the Rocket Theatre in New York and Harry hopes to have his work finished so that he can attend her first performance, Now for the war news. We bring to you today a personal interview with General Bohall, He has carried out his high school dreams and is now observing his tenth anniversary in the army. We are very honored to have him on our program and are happy to present to him the star he so justly deserves, Don has made great progress in climbing the ladder of success and has reached the highest rung by being promoted to a Five Star General. We hear he has met quite a few interesting nurses while he was recovering in the hospital from his leg injury, He says he likes the girls, but can't seem to find the one, Maybe he will come back to one of his high school romances! We'll have and from Donald later on the program. The local news brings to the scene three Seniors who have gone their separate, successful ways since graduating from high school in 1952. Goldie Taylor has made her home in Omaha since graduation. She started working as a waitress in a drug store and has since become a partner in the business, She has been very happy there and certainly very successful in the enterprise. As yet she has remained unattached. However, it looks as though her high school romance with the army friend might prove interesting and we wonder what the outcome will be, Bill Harl, following Horace Greeley's suggestion, Go West Young Man, Go West,' did just that and began working on a ranch. The latest reports are, that he owns his own ranch and has his wife, whom he has known for several years, for his business partner, I guess Bill left quite a few girls with broken hearts before he finally settled down, We would like to meet the Lucky Girl, Bill is proud of his famous horse Banner , about which there has been so much news. At the present time, Bill has entered his horse in the Kentucky Derby, We're all with you, Bill, and hope to see Banner in the winners' circle, h Here's good news for you from the world of fashions. This is the model, Janice Alton, and see the dress she's wearing. The costume she is modeling was fashionable about ten years ago and is rapidly coming back into style--thanks to Janice! For-the benefit of the radio audience, we will describe it, It is a huge, quilted skirt made of black net. Her blouse is very fashionable with pushup balloon sleeves. The accessories include black pumps and handbag with an imported I 5 Swagger Brim hat that is very ultra-modern. We always knew soxnething like this would happen to her because of her taste for clothing. Janice has been a very successful Powers Model since graduation from L.S,l-LS, Keep up the good work, Jan! Ladies and Gentlemen, we think this is going to be a pleasant surprise to all. The sports world brings to you Marian Pippitt who, after having attended college in Greeley, Colorado, has been basketball coach at the Little Sioux High School for two years, The team, with the help of its coach, 'has reached its last game and is now playing in the finals at Des Moines, Iowa, We bring to you the last quarter of one of the hottest games of the season. Hush, here they come now and listen to the Boos! No wait! There's only a few seconds left--one of the forwards makes a field goal tieing the score 2.2-ZZ and the Boos turn to cheers, Logan fumbles the ball and it's Blue out. One second left to play and Sioux Shoots wildly from the Half and, much to the surprise of everyone, it goes in just as the buzzer sounds, Marian and her team step forward to get the trophyfand see who's presenting it to them--our own Anne McColley. We hear she's the famous forward on the Red Heads --averages 100 points a game. Quite different from your usual three, right Anne? Both girls took up sports after graduation and have been very successful, Anne went to business school for a half year, then traveled extensively over the United States, On her tour, she met a young man, who is now her husband. His father is the manager of the Red Heads team. Hence, she was interviewed and accepted as a member of the team, She tried out for guard but they told her she was just a natural-born forward, Anne started playing with them three years after gr aduation, Last but not least, we bring to you the second Lilly Pons, Miss Ylonda Hussing. In this year of 1962, we find her just as attractive as she was ten years ago--still wearing that pleasant smile, She's quite famous now and is to sing the title role in the opera, Carmen, in the Metropolitan in New York, This is her second I appearance in the operatic circle, She still does commercial art workoccasionally for the New York Times, This is Station L.,S.T,V, signing off for tonight with our best wishes to the class of 1952 for continued success in their chosen fields. We wish to thank S. W. Madison a newcomer to the television world, for relinguishing the time from his amateur hour which has made it possible for this program to be given. 4. fi Lf-l f X 'X XM 3 S XI.- X . L I' ff X A ei! J S535 'f ' ' Carolyn Walker, Ylonda Hussing, Patricia Warren, Maxine Anderson, School Activities ol '51 -'52 FRESHMAN INITIATION U On September 28, 1951, the Seniors initiated the Class of 1955 into Little Sioux High School, In the evening, after a long day of obeying, dodging, and bowing to the Seniors, they were entertained at a Li'l Abner Party in Dogpatch gymnasium. After the blindfolded Freshmen tiptoed and crawled, over and around various devices of an obstacle course, games were played, and refreshments, served by the Juniors, were enjoyed by all. CHRISTMAS PR OGRAM The Little Sioux School put on a Christmas Program December 20, 1951. A lot of time and effort was put forth to make it a success, Mr, Madison was the director of the high school play, The grade rooms contributed to the program, Santa arrived after the program and supplied the children with candy. SQ UAR E DANCE Numerous square dances have been held in the Little Sioux High School gymasium to furnish amusement for the students and community. The proceeds have helped to swell the activity fund, Mr. and Mrs. Kelp provided the music, playing for both modern and square dances, Lunch was served each time by a student committee. BOX SUPPER At the beginning of the basketball season, it was decided that the teams should get new suits, In addition to contributions from each class, a box supper was held to help pay for the suits. A lunch was served by a 'committee of high school students, sponsored by Mrs. Glasser. Mr, and Mrs, Kelp provided the music for dancing which everyone enjoyed. We wish to thank the people of this community for helping to make it a success, SENIOR PICTURE DAY AND SKIP DAY The Senior Class of 1952, accompanied by their sponsor, Mr, S. W. Madison, went to Sioux City on October 3, to have their graduation pictures taken at Genelli Studio. They lunched together and then some of the class watched television, while the others went to a movie. Everyone had a grand time. The Seniors are looking forward to Skip Day, but a definite date has not been' set. JUNIOR ACTIVITIES The junior year is one of the busiest years in the life of a high school student. In order to have the means with which to entertain the Seniors, and to be able to con- tribute a gift to the school, the class of '53 started early to earn the needed money, Their first project was 8 food sale and lunch on October 13, 1951, clearing about twenty- five dollars. They also sold pop and candy at baseball games. Due to the support given them by others, their next project, a card sale, was also successful--netting the class about two hundred dollars, Undernthe direction of Mr. Madison the junior Play is now in progress. The plans for the junior-Senior banquet are rather incornplete, but the junior class wishes to express appreciation to all who have helped them this year. Especially they wish to thank Mr, Madison and the three Senior boys for the time and effort given to their play, The Red Spider, SOPHOMORE CLASS On March 7, 1952, the Sophomore class, sponsored by Coach Beasley, held a dance in the Little Sioux gymnasium, Following the dance was a Cake Walk, Everyone was invited and the proceeds from the dance went for Playground Equipment. The proceeds from the Cake Walk were used to swell the Sophomore class fund, IN A PPR ECIATION While the basketball girls were playing the county and sectional tournaments, many honors were bestowed upon them. Frank Kilts gave them candy bars after the Beebeetown defeat in the county tournament, Harry Pippitt gave them ice cream bars after they defeated Mondamin in the county tournament and Woodbine in the sectional tournament. Lawrence Glasser treated all the girls to malted milks and Sam McColley gave them pop. Elias Riley honored them by giving them an oyster supper after they won the county tournament. Harley Warren and Holger jensen treated the basketball girls to a steak supper because they went far enough in the sectional tournament to play in the champion- ship game, The town people gave a party after both final games in the county and sectional tournaments. The girls' basketbxall team 'wishes to thank everyone for taking such a deep interest in them. They appreciated it very much. COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT We have been very fortunate for several years, in having a well organized commercial department. Mrs, Vada Glasser, the 'commercial teacher, has given'of her best to the students in this field. Many have gone to well paying jobs, For a small school we have indeed been fortunate, The annual staff wishes to thank the typing department for their help in preparing this yearbook.
