14th and Park .Streets LITTLE ROCK CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL The Most Beautiful High School In America' Phone FRanklin 5-1285 May 1, 1960 Little Rock, Arkansas Dear Seniors of 1960: The doors to Central opened late in the summer of 1959, and in walked a group of seniors. They willingly picked up the loose ends left by preceding inactivity, and led the way to a highly successful school year. I am proud of these seniors, proud of their dependability, their industry, their citizenship, and their leadership. This year's seniors, the first to graduate in the 1960's, are in my opinion entering a decade that promises to be one of achievement and excitement never before equalled. It is estimated that the population of the United States will increase by 20, 000, 000 in the next ten years, and that due to mechanization of indus- try there will be an oversupply of unskilled labor and a great shortage erf skilled technicians and professional people. This means that you need to develop your talents, increase your knowledge, and cultivate your varied interests if you are to meet tomorrow's challenge successfully. It is important that you learn to do something well. In the next decade or two you will have your careers, your homes, your families, your interests, and it is you who will make the decisions that will decide our country's future. We members of the faculty hope that in your years with us you have progressed not only in knowledge, but also in a deeper understanding of people, and in a greater appreciation of the real values of life. We hope that in some measure, you are better fitted to accept the challenge that is yours. Affectionately yours, jess W. Matthews Principal 22
