DR. HARRY A. LITTLE Our superintendent has been in Little Rock for three years, and has been re-elected for three more. Holding more and higher degrees than any other teacher in the system, he has sold the faculty and the patrons on his scholarship. In the city he is a frequent lecturer and after-dinner speaker, and is widely recognized throughout the state and the South as an outstanding schoolman. 10

Jlittle (look Senior JUcjh School The Men Beautiful Ht£h Scheel In America Nth and Park Streets Little Rock, Arkansas Phone S-12S5 May 1, 1951 Dear Seniors» Every year 3ince 1673, young citizens of this city have completed their school experiences a..a nave been awarded a diploma by the officials of the Little Rock School District. Although there were only five graduates in that first class seventy-eight years ago ar.d the graduating class of 1951 numbers approximately six hundred, the tnought occurs to me that the problems faced by the first graduates from LRHS and those to be faced by the members of the present senior class have much in common. The greatest difference lies in the type of world into which the graduates of 1873 entered and the condition of the world today. The year 1873 found the country struggling in the throes of a panic; general apathy reigned and the calls for new enterprises grew more feeble every day. As the clouds and storms of depression settled over our country, few people could hold onto their dreams and aspirations, and fewer still were they who managed to bring their dreams into being. The year 1951 finds the senior of LRHS facing the storm clouds of a troubled world that has shrunk in size because of modern 3cier.ce and invention so that the problems of all tho other nations of the globe have a definite bearing on their dreams and aspirations, and only the strong-willed have confidence that their goals will be obtained. Although the lives of high school students in 1673 at home and at school differed from the comfortable existence familiar to most LRHS students of today, many similarities, particularly at school, can be perceived. Those early grad- uates were taught the proper characteristics of a worthy life, the qualities of true citizenship, the importance of college and university training, and the value of a strong spiritual belief for an individual entering into an adult world. Though now presented in a different manner, these same sterling qual- ities are instilled in the minds of the pupils today. The seniors of 1951, graduating at a time when we are concerned with anxieties and fears, carry the hone of a world of mighty promise and the challenge of a world of tremendous opportunity. '.Yith 3toady courage and brave new trust, these young peoplo will face their duties to our community in the sane manner a3 their predecessors seventy-eight years ago, and through thoir leadership our great nation will seek and find peace. The past has left it3 obligations; the future will grow out of a successful present. You have made plans and outlined objectives for the years ahead. Toward the accomplishments of these the best wishes of those with whan you have worked go with you. For happiness and success we express our very best wishes. Faithfully yours, 12
