Foreword The Little Rock wos lounched in August, 1944. On June 17, 1945, her commissioning doy, she ossumed her seopower role. The dreom of every old-time moriner, she wos the pride of the United Sfotes Novy. This is our ship. This is our story. Her engines throbbed ond pounded. Her prow cut knife-like through the foom. Her screws churned out Tens of thousands of miles of woke. This is the Arkonsos Troveler.

ln her first twenty months at sea our ship visited twenty-two countries, became well known in thirty-five major ports of the world. We rounded Cape Horn, crossed the Line again and cut the Arctic Circle. Our twin screws car- ried us from hot African shores to Scandinavian waters. We saw bull- fights in Portugal and bathed in the blue Mediterranean. Truly, our best memories are of the European cruise. We, all remember that day when Plymouth loomed on our port bow . . . :iii G- , -.194-' ' ., 93 iff-Qf-!f'9s Q ..,-M
