Man is material, and the master- of pigments, oils, and canvas, is material. Jost as man has a spiritual nature, his masterpiece possesses spiritual qualities, created from the imagination and ingenuity ol the artist, it reflects intelligence and conveys a Wealth of ideas. As the artist fashions his masterpiece by numheriess brush strokes, so we at LITTLE FLOWER endeavor to create a masterpiece, the Catholic woman. The freshman becomes the basis for ocr masterpiece. Each class and each activity in which she takes part contribute something to her evolution as a work of art. For the easel we use the firm foundation of a knowledge of our religion. English and Mathematics form a canvas of superior quality, ready for the artist's first brush strokes. Paint pigments, pale and brilliant, used for the actual composition of the master- piece, are manifest in our study of a greater variety of subjects. Language, science, homemaking, history, physical education, business-all are the vivid hues we use to bring a masterpiece into existence. WE DISCOVERED A WEALTH. . Regina Harran is the exemplary freshman who gathers together her implements in anticipation of the work before her. NAZARETH CANA BETHLEHEM These towns associated with the life of Christ play an important part R luguon I. As J. Brindle points out the different cities Sister Mary Clare explains their significance, while C. Kulisezewska, J. Carr, M Potts and J Mozzarella inspect these ancient sites. 3 V n Q, UNUS, UNA, UNUM--The day before a test finds the singular and plural endings receiving close scrutiny from Latin students. As H. Chrupcala points out genitive endings to the class, S. Connolly, E. Hal-in, A, Galiney, L. Halbe, and P. Ruggiero locate the information in their texts. UP TWO BLOCKS - OVER ONE as demonstrated by S. Brennan, is the graphical method for linear equations. Sister Helen Marie looks on with approval as D. Matz manages to smile while explaining to the class a much more practical and algebraical solution to the problem. The roster, designed to widen the scope ot knowledge, no longer is a puzzle to the more experienced mind. The mademoiselle of French ll must also study the complicated theorems of geometry. Along with subiects continued from freshman year, sopho- more art challenges her creativeness. Above all, Church History enriches her appreciation of the contributions of Christianity in all fields of human achievement. GOING FISHING?-No, it's iust M. Quinn and D. Milewska cleaning the fish tank. The turtle which P. Kelly is observing breaks no speed record, while J. Hedmond satisfies Mr. Rubbit's ravenous appetite. Weighing hamsters presents no problem to M. Bella is anxious to display her knowledge of religion while other enthusiastic students clamor for Sister Mary Theodore's attention. Each girl aspires to prove she has grasped the wide field of Church History. QUALITY IS A REQUlSITE4 For our masterpiece we need excellent paints and a strong framework, pro- vided by the activities of the sophomore year, claim K. Contino and C. Ziegler. 'S Q M ,,,,.f x l 9' THE CANVAS or CLASSICS HELD BEFORE THEM The sophomore has progressed beyond the elementary brush strokes to the canvas. She is inspired by the master, Shakespeare, as she enacts The Merchant of Venice. The microscopic spirogyra and pleurococci of the biology lab excite her imagination and arouse her curiosity to the wonders of new worlds, and every sophomore is familiar with the strained muscles and sore ligaments accompany- ing each gym period. But, most important of all is the coordination of ideas and actions which is attained in this, her second year of artistic apprenticeship. ANGLE-AREA-CIRCLE are familiar terms in General Mathe- matics. Here M. Stazsko, M. Reed. E. Rossi, and M. A. Kurhan explain the importance of geometric figures. O IS THE POINT OF INTERSECTION of the lines AB and CD. This step in a proof is explained to geometry students by M. Krzeminski and M. Smart. THE QUALITY OF MERCY IS NOT STRAINED. These immortal words have resounded through Elizabethan theatres, similar in plan to that shown by R. Wilkerson and M. A. Monaco as they explain the use of the stage to panelists B. Chmielewski, C. Lucas, M. Mutter, and M. Wilkinson in this English II class. i '. , L' 5 gg: X.. VIVE LA FRANCE! QUEEN or HEAVEN AND EARTH MARY-LIKE IN SOUL AND BODY are words sung by Little Flower students as they participate in the May Procession. With their heads covered with white veils of simplicity and their hearts resting in the shadow of Marys love, they consecrate themselves to our Blessed Lady.
