English, that essential suhject encompassing two of the three Ars, is a part of every student's life from primary to high school days. A roster without this fundamental course would be, not only a catastrophe, but a grave error. A concrete foundation for the great work of education is furnished by our mother tongue. Upon entering high school, the student realizes the fruits of a sound English background. There, she explores the subject more deeply and thor- oughly and with full appreciation and enjoyment. There, she delves into literature, which gives her a cultural hackground that is indicative of a well-rounded education. Through an extensive reading program, she becomes acquainted with the immortal names inscrilfed in litefary history. Future champions of the Catholic pre s are dis- covered and trained in periods devoted to creative writing. The journalists of tomorrow develop their talent hy serving on the staffs of the puhlications. Contrary to the popular ltelfef that the press sig- nifies only the printed Word, is the ultilization of the spoken word via the radio.
