...EXPERIE lllll l3llIIllS The Reverend john Haydt, J.C.D., rccently - appointed assistant superin - tendent of diocesan schools, is truly pre- pared as a mentor for Philadelphia youth. His own youth was spent in our beloved cityg in fact, he is a graduate of our neighboring Northeast Catholic. Previous to his superintendentship, Dr. Haydt was a teacher of mathematics at Roman Catholic. Such close associa- tion witl young people has made him well able to understand them and to guide their hearts to goodness and their minds to knowledge and truth. Since the time of its founding in 1939, Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls has been a pacemaker in the education of Catholic youth. The late Right Rev. Nlonsignor john J. Bonner, to whom we pay tribute as a leader and inspirer of Catholic youth, ever encouraged us to aim for high goals. Now, that torch of high idealism is held aloft for us by the Rev. Edward M. Reilly, J.C.D., our present superintendent of diocesan schools. His leadership, augmented by that of the assistant superintendents, the Rev. john 1-laydt, j.C.D., and the Rev. john Graham, D.D., will keep our school system at its same high standard of efhciency in moral, mental, and physical education. Under the direction of these three priest- educators, the respective prefects of the ten religious orders that are represented in our faculty of 107 members execute the training program at Little Flower. The curriculum, which provides for a well-rounded education, is varied enough to satisfy the varying aptitudes and skills of our vast student body. ln addition to the regular academic and scientific sub- jects, a complete course in commercial studies is offered. Then, too, students may avail themselves of specialized training in home economics, music, art, dramatics, and creative writing. During the scholastic year 1945-46, 326-1 students daily grew in wisdom, age, and 5' grace within the portals of Little Flower. The seniors numbered 6573 the juniors 7-105 the sophomores 6615 and the fresh- men 7-l--l. At the annex in Germantown, Little Flowerites totaled 462. Through the guidance and training of our teachers, 3000 alumnae have already gone forth well prepared and have successfully filled places in religious, professional, business, and home-making vocations as Catholic women. Ill lIAlHlllIlI PHllllSllPHl Our religion department effectively executes a spiritual-building program that enables its three thousand students to attain full spiritual growth through an extensive four-year course. Appropri- ately, the Life of Christ prepares freshmen for the second-year study of Church history and the sacra- ments. An intensive, practical consideration of the commandments is undertaken by juniors While seniors delve comprehensively into apologetics. Thus. religious-minded Little Flowerites, an im- portant group among Philadelphia's youth, will help uphold high moral standards and keep our great city ever a Citi' of lirnrlzwrly 1.0-rr.
