It is that which makes the present enduring and the future bright with hope. Little Flower, employed in the complete education of its students, places stress on this important phase of any training course. Here, religion is the core curriculum, and from this institute of learning students go forth armed with a strong protection, fashioned by the Cath- olic ideals that make up a fine moral background. Wenfaf y Catholic ideals find expression in many fields. Realizing this, Little Flower incites in her students an appreciation for music, art, literature, and dramatics and awakens them to a realization of the rich advantages offered by clubs and group organizations. She presents a myriad of cultural social opportunities and urges her students to make use of them. Thus, her students become socially capable of filling their varied places in the world that they shall help to build. ocia y In the mind is sown the seed of knowledge. Unless a field is cultivated properly, it will not be productive. Unless a mind is molded, trained, and directed along the right paths, it will not bear Catholic ideals that lead to a better, happier world. At Little Flower, through a well-planned curriculum that includes academic and vocational training, students' mental powers are carefully developed and enriched thus building excellent and capable leaders for tomorrow. dw 73- S517 P' 'rg ' wfr fr'f ' 5. j. I 'N +55 '1 FAR SIGHIED ADMI ISTH After the sudden death of Monsignor John Bonner. the responsible task of guiding youth's footsteps in the diocese of Philadelphia was placed in the capable hands of Reverend Edward M. Reilly. j.C.D. Having been assistant superintendent of diocesan rchools for two years, Dr. Reilly is equipped with experience as well as ability for his new task. His pleasant personality and whole-hearted interest in young people and their activities have won the respect and confidence of our Catholic youth. l0RS.H The Reverend John Graham. D.D.. newly-appointed assistant superintendent of diocesan schools. has followed a double vocation of priest and educator. for he was a faculty member of the Latin and social studies department at Roman Catholic High School. His dual duties effected a close contact with the much-talked-about teen-agers. Hav- ing worked among them. he under- stands them. their problems and their needs. Thus. he is qualified to act as one of the important counselors for Philadelphia's Catholic youth. Sister M. Agnita. G.N.S.H. Sister M. Clarissima, C.S.B. Sister Mary Daniel. S.S.J. Sister M. Electa. OSF Principal Prefect of Studies ...EXPERIE lllll l3llIIllS The Reverend john Haydt, J.C.D., rccently - appointed assistant superin - tendent of diocesan schools, is truly pre- pared as a mentor for Philadelphia youth. His own youth was spent in our beloved cityg in fact, he is a graduate of our neighboring Northeast Catholic. Previous to his superintendentship, Dr. Haydt was a teacher of mathematics at Roman Catholic. Such close associa- tion witl young people has made him well able to understand them and to guide their hearts to goodness and their minds to knowledge and truth. Since the time of its founding in 1939, Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls has been a pacemaker in the education of Catholic youth. The late Right Rev. Nlonsignor john J. Bonner, to whom we pay tribute as a leader and inspirer of Catholic youth, ever encouraged us to aim for high goals. Now, that torch of high idealism is held aloft for us by the Rev. Edward M. Reilly, J.C.D., our present superintendent of diocesan schools. His leadership, augmented by that of the assistant superintendents, the Rev. john 1-laydt, j.C.D., and the Rev. john Graham, D.D., will keep our school system at its same high standard of efhciency in moral, mental, and physical education. Under the direction of these three priest- educators, the respective prefects of the ten religious orders that are represented in our faculty of 107 members execute the training program at Little Flower. The curriculum, which provides for a well-rounded education, is varied enough to satisfy the varying aptitudes and skills of our vast student body. ln addition to the regular academic and scientific sub- jects, a complete course in commercial studies is offered. Then, too, students may avail themselves of specialized training in home economics, music, art, dramatics, and creative writing. During the scholastic year 1945-46, 326-1 students daily grew in wisdom, age, and 5' grace within the portals of Little Flower. The seniors numbered 6573 the juniors 7-105 the sophomores 6615 and the fresh- men 7-l--l. At the annex in Germantown, Little Flowerites totaled 462. Through the guidance and training of our teachers, 3000 alumnae have already gone forth well prepared and have successfully filled places in religious, professional, business, and home-making vocations as Catholic women. The tiniest tot molds castles from sand and designs from clay. This ability is evident in the art work of Little Flower- ites. 'lihe studio, room 308, is the center for youth's creative art. Under skilled direction, stu- dents apply their talent and imagination to produce artistic results. 'lihese students are the decorators of our bulletin hoards: they circulate posters tor Catholic Press Klonth and Book llveek. They sketch lflossie 1'i1z for The yllIl'!'t'.Yll1ll, and these gifted illustrators have helped to make the literary issue of The Garlnna' alive with interest. From this group of young people will spring the artists. de- signers. and decorators of tomorrow. Our city, with its schools of art and design. its Acadeniy of Fine Arts. and yvorld-known llluseum of Art, has played an important part in the history of American art. and our students give evidence of adding to this prestige.
