FIRST HTIITHTS UT LITTLE TLUTUEH ' x bl ACIOUS lwuilding, wellfconstructed and modern from the cornerstone to its metal cross thus stood The Catholic Girls' High School of Philadelphia. later known as the john VJ. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School. ln 1912 this upftof date edifice marked the hcginning ol' something new in the parochial school system .1 diocesan girls' high school. The undertaking and successful completion of many enterprises hy the faculty composed of live teaching communities proved how mutually henelicial was this composite plan. Within the next few years. the enrollment in our parish schools was greatly augmented, and the need arose for another diocesan girls' high school. Consequently, in 1927, the imposing West Philadelphia Catholic Girls' High was opened. Vwfhen the dedication ceremony took place, another great milestone had heen reached in the development of the Catholic School System. As the Philadelphia area and population increased, our grade schools multiplied. With propitious foresight our heloved Archhishop--Dennis Cardinal Dougherty envisioned the necessity for a third Catholic girls' high. To accommodate pupils in the
