Wendt Principal Wendt has been famil- iar to Little Falls, High School stu- dents since 1930 when he joined the faculty. In his seventeen years at Little Falls High School he has served as a classroom instructor, assistant principal, and principal. Mr. Wendt assumed his duties as high school principal in 1944. He is a graduate of the St. Cloud State Teachers College, St. Cloud, Minn- esota, and has done post-graduate Work at the University of North Dakota. Superintendent Paul J. Hanson Superintendent Hanson assumed his administrative duties at Little Falls High School in July of 1946. He attended the Valley City State Teachers' College, Valley City, North Dakota, and was graduated from the agricultural college at Fargo, North Dakota, with a degree of Bachelor of Science. Mr. Hanson received his Master of Science degree at the University of North Dakota. Before coming to Little Falls, Mr. Hanson served as superintendent at Breckenridge, Minnesota. Faculty DORIS V. Comets Tale The first copy of the school paper, The Alpha , was 'published in 1894. The first edition of the C0met's Tale came out in 1923, put out in surprise by a small staff. It Was a feature regularly appearing in the Daily Transcript until three years ago When it became a separate paper. It is now published bi-monthly by the Comet's Tale staff. The Comet's Tale sponsored two dances and gave ag pep assembly. One of the dances was given after the Bemidji game and the other after the Alexandria game. As in previous years, the Council directs hall supervision, student lunchroom super- vision, lavatory supervision, the Lost and Found Department, the question box, and any other miscellaneous jobs that are requested throughout the year. The purpose of the organization as stated in the Constitution is as follows: 1. To foster sentiments of law and order. 2. To aid in internal administration of the school. 3. Student Health Council The Student Health Council was organized in 1945. Members of the Student Health Council assisted during the Mantoux testing programg they also sponsored a Posture Contest, from which kings and queens were chosen from the grade schools, the junior high, and the senior high. CA health reference shelf in the high school library has been the result of the efforts of this group. National Honor Society The Little Falls Chapter of the National Honor Society was first established in the Little Falls High School on February 18, 1929, when ten charter members were initiated. Membership in this organization is based on scholarship, service, leadership, and charac- ter. Candidates eligible for membership must be in the upper third of their class and must have attended the Little Falls High School for at least one year. Membership is either active or graduate, graduate members have no vote. Members of the organization that are pictured were initiated on May 23, 1946. The purpose of this club is to teach and instruct girls in the duties of caring for a library. Some of the jobs in which the girls assist the librarian are checking in and shelving books, filing cards, and preparing book displays. The year's activities were begun by a formal candlelight initiation. During the Christmas season the girls sang carols at St. Otto's Old Folks'Home and other places around the town. Other activities of this year have included a banquet and the annual spring party. I-lifY Club The Hi-Y Club informally initiated its fourteen new members on Monday, October 7, and held the formal initiation October 28. The club, with the aid of local business men is responsible for the printing and distributing of the basketball programs of all the home games. Meetings are held every other Monday. The annual Homecoming Dance was held on September 27. The Flyers were host to the Brainerd Warriors. Again this year the club sponsored the Annual Midwinter Ball on February 14 in the high school auditorium. This year's theme Was one symbolizing Valentine's Day. Future Farmers of America The Little Falls chapter of the F. F.A. was organized in 1930 under the advisorship of Mr. E. J. Halvorsen. Since 1938, when Mr. Halvorsen was replaced by Mr. H. D. Mclntosh, the membership has increased from 16 to 67. Recently, when Mr. Mclntosh accepted the position of Vocational Coordinator, he was replaced by Mr. Earl Rundgren. The chapter has sent several members to the National F. F. A. convention in Kansas City, Missouri, for five yearsg they attend the livestock Marketing School in South St. Paul every yearg they hold an annual parents and sons banquet each year g for four years they have had basketball teams which play neighboring F. F. A. Chaptersg and they sell candy and refreshments at the football and basketball games. Pinckney The Little Falls High School Band under the direction of Kenneth L. Pinckney had a very successful year. The first event of the year Was the performance with the Brainerd High School Band between halves of the Brainerd-Little Falls Homecoming game on Septem- ber 27. On October 11 they performed with the St. Cloud Tech Band before the St. Cloud- Little Falls football game at St. Cloud. The band has played for the pep fests, and other basketball and football games. The band performed for the High School Christmas program which Was held December 19. They also played for the Junior Chamber of Commerce Christmas program held in the Legion Clubrooms on December 21. Various members of the band took part in the High School solo-ensemble recital in April. The Band appeared at the Little Falls High School Festival. Closely following this Was the annual initiation which brought many new athletic minded girls into the Club. The Little Falls Chapter of the G. A. A. was organized in 1943 by Mrs. Roy Silvers, for the purpose of providing ufun for all, activity for all. It offers many opportunities for fun and activity in skiing, skating, hiking, basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, shuflleboard, soft- ball, and other sports. For participation inthese and other sports, the member receives points. Pep Squad The Pep Club with Miss Miller as adviser, was organized this fall. The members work with the cheerleaders to prepare new yells. The organization has printed yell sheets contain- ing all L. F. cheers. These were passed out to the students at an assembly. They voted on pat- ches,which contain a megaphone and the wording, L, F. Pep Club. The Pep Club has had each organization in school put on a short skit at the pep fests throughout the year. The officers are: President, Celia Schlangeng Vice President, Jerry Madsen, Secretary-Treasurer, Cyri Johnson, Publicity Man- ager, Don Merrick. Cheerleaders Joyce, Jerry, and Bob, all attending L. F. H. S. for the past several years, were elected last spring by the student body as cheerleaders for the football and basketball season of '46-'47. Miss Miller has acted as adviser for this group the past year. The Tumbling Team The Tumbling Team has gr own from ten charter members to twenty-eight members. The club was organized by Miss Nelson in September, 1945. The tumblers plan group and combination stunts and present them to the club. Junior Academy of Science The Junior Academy of Science 'met each Tuesday night in the Chemistry department, Each member had a project which he worked on at these meetings. School Patrol The school patrol, consisting of six regular members and two substitutes, was organized for the purpose of accident prevention and student protection. The members were sworn in by Highway Patrol officer Kaisersott. They are stationed at posts near the school during the noon traffic and the four o'clock dismissal. Junior Class Play A Case ofSp11Qngtimc by Lee Sherman New dramatic talent was exposed to the universe as the juniors put on their class play, A Case Of Spring- time, by Lee Slrerman, on March 7, 1947. It was full of hilarious but sympathetic troubles that enveloped a high school senior who fell for the daughter of the school principal. Through his tricks of magic he seemed to have himself involved for life-and then, as if by magic, he was headed for happiness forever after. Senior Class Play T'ish by Alice Chadwick The seniors were host to the public on November 22, 1946, when they entertained with their class play Tish by Alice Chadwick. A new high was created in comedy entertainment as Tish, her companions, Lizzie and Aggie, and a wonderful supporting cast relived and presented the immortal characters from Mary Roberts Rinehart's novel of the same name. The returning veterans Were: Ollie Mueller, Gene Valentine, Dave Griffith, Jerry Wilczek, James Karnowski, and Chuck Randall. Last year the Flyers captured their second consecutive Central Eight title behind the surperb pitching of Dick Eich. He hurled two consecutive no-hit, no-run ballgames. Practice started in the high school gymnasium the Week following the state high school basketball tournament 3 as the Weather moderated, practice was shifted to the county fairgrounds. School Daze again. We started with a general assembly at 9:00 A. M. and a Lyceum program, the Ritz Trumpeters, in the afternoon. Very interesting. 20. The first football game of the season was played here with Crosby-Ironton defeating the Flyers 13 to 0. 24. Faculty picnic-Hot Dog!- 27. Our second football game ended in a 6-6 tie with Brainerd. October 4. We went to Aitkin that night. The score was 7-0 in favor of Aitkin. 11. The band accompanied our team to St. Cloud where Tech High School defeated the Flyers, 20-0. 18. A victorious start for the Flyers as they defeated Sauk Rapids 53 to 42 at Sauk Rapids. 6. After a victory, a loss-Staples 41, L. F. 28 on our own floor. 10.
