The Juniors worked hard planning and decorating. This hard work paid off, for the medieval court looked great. The Junior mothers pre- pared a delicious meal and the Sophomores served it. The Sophomores also put on a skit of romance and comedy. The music for the dance was performed by the band “Daddy Warbucks”. All and all the evening was a total success. With the first four track meets resche- duled, the girls were beginning to think this track season would be all practice with no meets! Eleven girls came out for track this year, and all lettered by plac- ing in a meet. Several of the girls placed in all of the meets. JoAnne Kucera placed 2nd at districts in the 400 meter dash to qualify for the State Track Meet Overall, it was a successful season. It’s hard to believe that ten years ago, in 1983, this Nebraskan Village was almost a ghost town. They say it only had few surviving businesses. But in the past years there has been a major change. Litchfield, Nebraska has now become the industrial center of the nation. Town and cities all over the world have been trying to uncover the secret to Litchfield’s sudden success. From my investigations I have found that the initiative taken by some 12 students from the class of 1983, paved the way for the city’s success. “I knew they were good,” said Dave Hastings, English professor at the newly founded University of Litchfield, “But I didn’t know they was that good. Maybe it was all those thoughts on life I taught them when I was their sponsor.” And maybe he is right. In fact, this class has gone all out. The Midland Oil Company struck oil in yet another vein. For 10 years this company, led by R.J. Lovitt, has constructed a series of wells across Sherman and Custer counties. R.J. claims that without the precise calculations of scientist Mick Schroll, this oil discovery would not have been possible. I asked Schroll about the discovery and he claimed it to be only luck. His humble story told of shooting trout and accidently shooting a hole in the ground. Oil splurted out. This is a bizarre story, but then again Schroll seemed a little bizarre himself. Ranching paid off for a man they call Boss Mont. Monte Arnold is famous across the nation for his large cattle company. With the aide of his “close” secretary and accountant Kylie Toby, Boss Mont has made millions. I tried to get an interview the Boss’s accountant, but 1 just missed her at the Fieldgrove Airport. She was on her way to Alcatraz. It seems she was found to be embezzling money for Boss Mont. Boss Mont didn’t seem worried though. He felt with his inside connections he could have Toby out of prison by the end of the week. This brings me to another of Litchfield’s booming businesses. Brenda Fieldgrove has one of the largest airports in the world. I was really impressed when I noticed that the only types of planes were Concords and Space Shuttles. She claims to have hundreds of business people traveling in and out of the city every day. Many of her customers are fashion people from all over the world. Brenda said that since Dana Unick opened her fashion corporation using the brand name Dana’s Vanisbuildt, there has been a stream-line of people in from Paris. Dana’s industry deals mostly in blue jeans. Her top model is yet another 1983 graduate. Gary Siegel has become a sex symbol ever since his big break as a model for Dana’s Vanisbuildt jeans. Dana told me she designs clothes for the “macho man,” and Gary is just the look she wanted for her line of blue jeans. Part of Gary’s good looks are due to his fantastic macho hair style. Teresa Siebke takes the credit for his new style. Teresa is a partner in Dana Vanisbuildt. However, Teresa handles hair fashion. Siebke has many world-famous customers. For example, just last week she “washed the gray right out” of Tom Selleck’s hair. Siebke told me that Selleck stopped in for a “dye-job” just before he attended Superbowl Twenty- seven. Litchfield’s NFL football team played in their 10th consecutive Superbowl. The Litchfield Bunnies, coached by Brent Krazer have been successful since 1983. Kratzer, the Bunny coach, stated that the new NFL Superbowl rules were a big help to his team. The new rule let the two teams with the worst records play in the Superbowl. Coach Kratzer felt the ruling made for a more challenging Superbowl. Kratzer stated that without the constant counseling from Kim Albers, his coaching career would have been over years ago. Dr. Kim Albers travels with the team as their counselor. She works not only with Kratzer, but with other members of the team about handling their constant defeats. Dr. Albers does her best to keep the Bunnies from going funny. What Albers does for the team emotionally, Dr. Kucera does for the team physically. Dr. JoAnne Kucera has become the team’s top physician. I asked her about her work and she replied saying that she was constantly busy. It seems she used a lot of cotton mending the Bunnie’s broken tails after a game. The Litchfield Bunnies are just one of the many successful enterprises that have developed as a result to the endeavors taken on by the class of 1983. People from all corners of the world have watched as the once ghost town evolved to an industrial center of the world. It becomes evident that the city of Litchfield owes much of its success to this class of 1983. The city should find itself very fortunate to have been the home for these 12 men and women. “From the Editor’s Desk” Litchfield World Hearald Janis Lovitt Class Flower - Peach Rose Class Colors - Brown Champagne Class Motto: destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice.
