Hello. I'm Marty Albrecht. In the last 10 years in my travels around the country looking for a suitable job, 1 happened to run into my Litchfield classmates. In California I heard about some crazy guy jumping 22 motorcycles with a Mack truck, so couldn't miss seeing it. To my surprise that turned out to be Danny Lewandowski. Was glad to see he came out of that jump alright as he only cleared 21 bikes. Just by chance the 22nd bike was Joe Seku- tera's. Joe had loaned it to Danny, expecting it to be the first bike in the row. Found out that Joe has started his own motorcycle club. He says the qualifications are very simple to join. All you need is a motorcycle and to be female! Well, guess I won't be joining his club, so will continue my job hunting. Better get to my interview at the drag races. They need a timer and I'm always on time. The first race of the day is ready to begin, surely that couldn't be Craig Fread driving in it. Last time I saw him he was practicing his speed shifting in the good old shop at L.H.S. Guess he's known as ' 'Crazy Craig'' on the race circuit. I know that's Craig, he still squeals his tires the same way! While talking to Craig found out he gets all his cars from ' 'Honest Ike's Cars''. Ike Mason runs a junk car lot. He said since he drove them all through high school he can hardly give them up now. Since I'm near Hollywood, so good-looking and talented think I'll try out for the star role in the big upcoming movie. Heard Bemie Kieborz is a big star, so maybe she'll put in a good word for me. Guess she's pretty famous working as Raquel Welch's stunt person. Was good talking with her, but she couldn't give me any pointers or leads to stardom. Better catch my flight to the east coast. Heard there are plenty of job openings. That can't be Karen Riessland on my same flight. I'll be darned, she's head stewardess on this 747. Karen says she likes this active life and espe- cially flying. Now that we've landed I'll have to look up John Willoughby. I found him in an Ivy League University busily involved in his research into the argumentive behavior of cuckoo birds. 1 really doubt if there's any job openings in this field. Just as 1 was leaving the university 1 saw Linda Woolery sitting on a park bench soaking up the sunshine. Stopped to say hello, but it was a one-sided conversation. She was busy practicing her alphabet, in sign language. The only thing I really understood was when she waved good-bye. It's about time to head back to Litch- field, but first I'd better get a haircut. I stopped at the first place I saw. It was Krotz's Kut and to my surprise it was no one but Scot Krotz. As he was styling my hair he said he'd be moving to Mexico, to start a prosperous greenhouse business where he'll be using his cutting talents on the plants. Finally got started back for Nebraska, stopped in Omaha to pick up an IBM typewriter for all my letters of appli- cation. Couldn't believe it was Carol Norden who gave me a demonstration. She is one of the world's fastest typ- ers. Heard she can type up to 3,000 mistakes per minute. Decided to head up to the Sandhills to see Greg Siegel. He's one of the biggest land owners with close to 200,000 acres. Greg was telling how busy he's been trying to find his 50 head of cattle on all that land. He mentioned he found only 3 head this morning. As I was leaving Greg's ranch I noticed a couple of horseback riders moving about 47 head of cattle. Thought I'd check this out and was astonished to see Dottie Fread and LaVon Fieldgrove on horseback. They said they've been rounding up these wild cows, selling them at market and buying brood mares for their horse ranch. Thought I'd just keep moving back toward Litchfield. I stopped in Broken Bow to have something cool to drink, and ran into no one other than the psychiatrist, Diane Wardyn. After analyzing herself she says she's doing a fine job and really enjoys her work and by the way was I in- terested in buying some pigs? I quickly changed the subject and asked whatever happened to Jerry Lucas. She told me that Jerry is now a politician. When he heard they had joint sessions in Congress he immediately ran for office. As 1 was leaving Broken Bow I happened to look toward the Cottonwood Lane nursing home. I really felt sorry for a woman about my age in a wheelchair. As I got closer I was shocked to see Emma Howard. She had borrowed a pa- tient's chair and was doing wheelies on the sidewalk. 1 kept driving toward Litchfield. Just outside of town I saw Brenda Unick. Thought I'd drop in for a cup of coffee but she didn't have much time to visit. As I was leaving 1 noticed her busily hanging out diapers on the clothesline. She did tell me that Brent How- ard was playing football with the Kansas City Royals. During the off-seasons Brent has a job of stacking the astro- turf. I saw Brian Slocum out raking up his tobacco harvest. He is connected with the Red Man Chewing Tobacco Com- pany. He says his biggest customer is our old principal, Mr. Swanson. Carl Kucera is the new superintendent at L.H.S. After a couple of days in the office he decided that was an easy way to make a living, so now he's working parttime on some hog farm near Broken Bow. When 1 finally reached home I decided to relax and watch the Johnny Carson show. I was really amazed when I saw Lisa Lewis with her trumpet in place of Ole' Doc. Actually she's pretty good, she's always been a little windy. Guess I'd better get busy and apply for some more high paying, low working jobs. Catch you at our 20th reunion. Marty Albrecht 12
