SIGNS OF CHANGE TROJAN 1974 LITCHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL LITCHFIELD, NEBRASKA GLIMPSES . . . PAGE 63 The Annual Staff wishes to present this yearbook, Trojan 1974, to fellow student body members, faculty members, parents, and members of the community. A SIGN OF PROGRESS On May 2, 1973, the voters of District 15, Sherman County, passed a bond issue propos- ing the construction of needed facilities at the Litchfield Public School. A gymnasium, three elementary classrooms, and a music room were included in the floor plan. During the summer of 1973, we watched as the old playground was leveled and prepared for the beginning of con- struction. In the early fall, the cement was laid and the steel was raised. Then, slowly but surely, the walls enclosed the steel skeleton. With many delays and continued hard work, we have watched our dreams become a reality. 4 STOP AND GO LIFE OF STUDENT ACTIVITY The average student encounters many decisions daily, which he must yield to. These decisions include, Should I throw the soggy spit wad now, while the teacher s back is turned, or throw it away ; and Should I bring out the old football to have a hardy game with the kid across the table and risk having it taken, or put it away and wait until after school? Many intellectual decisions are also made in a normal school day. Among these are, Does my neighbor have the right answer to question 21, or perhaps he s too dumb to know the right answer himself ; or Should I write this report for extra credit so I could make the honor roll, or is it really worth it? These are just a few activities in the daily life of a student. 6 7 01 NOIJLDV NI SlNHaniS SENIORS OF 1974 KRISTY JO BREWER DARWIN ENNIS FREAD PEGGY JEANNE HIRD PEGGY LYNN FLETCHER CHARLES HOWARD BACUS SHEILA MARIE KWIATKOWSKI CONNIE JOLENE MASON DEBRA DIANE PREDMORE JERRY MICHAEL HOFFMAN GARY LEE HURT SENIORS OF 1974 JERRY MARRIAN ROLFS MEYER BRYCE DONALD RIESSLAND RODNEY ALLEN SNOW VICKI SUSAN SENFF 14 GEORGE LAWRENCE REITZ RANDALL ROY SWELEY DENNIS CRAIG UNICK SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS WERE: president-Sheila Kwiatkowski, vice president-Bryce Riessland, secretary- Chuck Bacus, treasurer-Kristy Brew- er, student council-George Reitz and Peg Hird, news reporter-Connie Mason. At the beginning of practice, Peg Hird, a senior, broke her foot. In spite of the odds, she came back and set the school record for the most assists in a career by an individual- -156. Carleen Siegel, a junior, set a record for the most spikes made in a season--58. Captain honors were shared by seniors Vicki Senff, Peg Hird, and Kristy Brewer. The volleyball team was treated to malts and hamburgers after District Volleyball Tournament by Coach Jim Janski. The season closed with three wins and nine losses. The 18-2 season ended with a loss to Pleasanton, a three-time foe dur- ing the season, at the District Finals at Ansley. The third meeting between the two teams seemed to be a charm for P-Town and a disappointing defeat for the Trojans. The only other loss for the Trojans came at the hands of Class C Arnold in early Conference Tournament. In regular sea- son action, the Trojans boasted a perfect 18-0 record. The Conference meet was held at Arnold. It was the last meet before the District meet and the Trojans scored 26 points. The District meet was held at Lexington and the Trojan cinder- men scored only 8 points. The Trojans had only one senior on the team and he got a late start due to a football injury. Chuck Bacus came out late in the season but provided the team with some experience along with two juniors, Mark Albrecht and Brad Howard. Chuck Bacus, senior. RECORD SETTERS The Litchfield Trojan re cord-setters were juniors Brad Howard and Mark Albrecht. Brad Howard set school records in both events in which he participated. The club members showed their support of the team by forming car caravans with booster signs and by wearing Booster Club jackets. The highlight of the year was a pep rally downtown, sponsored by the club, before the last game of the District Basketball Tourna- ment. The rally was complete with pep band, cheerleaders, boosters, and a Victory chain. A smile could be that precious mark That warms a lonely heart. Or perhaps a tender word From which a friendship starts. Moments mean so many things To people everywhere. Sorrow to some; joy to some; Or hatred could be there. No, the world will not remember But still our marks remain. Let's make each moment count; It won't be back again.
