My mind can remember some of the faces, events, and the good times, but not all, regardless how hard I try. I must hang on to these memories because it is all I have of the year 1973 which was surely one of the good years of my life. .s . ■ SPORTS Football Team Has Trying Year FRONT ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT; Brent Wilson, George Reitz, Olav Claussen, Joe Lucas, Dennis Unick, David Siegel, Mike Hawley, Jerry Hoffman. Coach Hauschild had this to say about the season, I think the boys did a good job and accomplished what we wanted, to stay in there and not give up. That's the type of team we had this year. This year Rod Rasmussen won the honor of being elected as one of the eleven players on die All-State team. Rod is the second Litchfield Player to be on All-State in the History of our school's football teams. 6 BILL BREWER VB Girls Establish Winning Ways FRONT ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT; Mary Ann Lovitt, Kristy Brewer, Becky Reitz, Michelle Nelson, Cindy Knepper, Janet Willoughby, Peggy Hird, Nancy Adams, Hope Kucera, Carleen Siegel, Joyce Kucera, Margaret Snell, Vicki Senff, Vicky Schall, Judy Unick. The win over Ravenna was one of the truimphs of the season. We won in two sets holding the Jays scoreless. The Cvic tourney came, and along with it a snow storm. It looked as if the girls wouldn't get to go. but the parents came to the rescue and drove cars. The girls proved the trip profitable by beating Spalding Acad, for the 3rd place trophy, in a breath taking game. The season ended with a 9-5 record, the best season since 1967-68. This was on the basis of scholarship, leader- ship, activities, and character. This spring the National Honor Society offered to paint the stage, in the town park. This will help spruce up the park and will make the graduation exercises in the park more attractive. It was also decided to make a plaque which will bear the names of 1973's class vale- dictorian and salu- tatoran. Each class's valedictorian and sal- utatoran will be added in the following years. FHA began the year by hosting a slumber party for all its members and their guests, about forty girls attended. Grand Island North West was the setting for the District Convention and wc had an attendance of 14 girls. To raise money for the an- nual FHA Christmas Dance, they sponsored numerous cake raffles and a coffee cake bake. Some of the benches in the business district were given a fresh coat of paint by the FHA and for May Day, they distributed May baskets to many persons in the com- munity. The highlight for the year was the State Lead- ership Conference, held in Lincoln on April 16 th and 17 Personal, Family and Community Living, Improvement, Aim of FHA Chapter RAVENNA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FISHER INSURANCE AGENCY Annual Staff Cries of, How should I crop this picture? “Hey. would somebody proof read this copy.” and “we need more pictures!!! can still be heard coming out of the Business Education room where the Trojan yearbook staff spent many long, productive hours, Each page has to be planned, laid out. lablcd. and indexed before being sent to the publisher. This year the annual stafT built their own dark room, and are producing their own pictures. This year's staff was very hard working Not settling for the alotted budget, they went to work to raise additional money by having a pancake feed. They also tried to have a car wash for several consecutive weekends but had to cancel due to adverse weather Trying to outsmart the elements they then scheduled a car wash on a school day. However they found they could not fool mother nature they ended up washing cars in the rain. They will look back on the experiences and laugh The staff also wishes to extend a vote of thanks to the Senior class for selling the advertising The class of 73 could, without effort, talk a miser out of his money ANNUAL STAFF: LEFT TO RIGHT; Kristy Brewer, Janet Willoughby, Sheila Kwiatkowski, Connie Sinkler, Janet Fisher, Mary Ann Lovitt, George Reitz, David Fread, Keith Hilton. In its first full year, our high school was very fortunate to make a home for a glittering first place trophy. Winning the first place trophy was Janet Willoughby and Connie Sinkler. Three other gentle- men participated in our debate pro- gram too. They were Darwin Fread, George Reitz, and Brent Wilson. Other minor speaker and team awards were won by the different teams. The season was especially grati- fying to coach Robert Smith because of the competition his teams were up against. Litchfield competed against teams from Classes A, B, and C. Hare work in the form of constant practice and research reaped dividends for the Trojans. These students also gave up numerous Saturdays to participate. Congratulations for a job well done. KEARNEY CLINIC FIRST NATIONAL BANK Litchfield's L-club did a great deal of hustling in order to deliver their fruit sales this year. The L-club sold a truck-load of citrus fruit from Texas to the community to raise money to help buy a clock for the football field. They plan on buying a film projector with the remaining money, and are looking forward to viewing their games on film. It is felt that these films help the boys to see and improve their games. The boys have not only been interested in improving their games, but have teamed with FHA for the last two years in helping them put on successful Christmas Dances. This year's sponsor was Mr. Bill Hauschild. 19 PEP CLUB; FRONT ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT; Mary Ann Lovitt, President, Vicky Schall, Sheila Kwiatkowski, Vice President, Kristy Brewer, Treasurer. The 1972-73 pep club has been very busy in keep- ing with the tradition of following the guys to the games, and arousing school spirit and unity. The pep club sponsored Parent's Night during the football and basketball seasons. It is felt that we had a successful year as our boys did quite well. Throughout, the year can be considered a success. 20 KAUFMAN-WARNETS FARMER'S UNION CO-OP VARSITY CHEERLEADERS: Peg Hird, Nancy Adams, Hope Kucera, Connie Mason. Spirit Is on Our Side HAND WELL COMPANY The 1972-73 pep club was led by four varsity and three junior varsity cheer- leaders. Hope Kucera was voted in head cheerleader. Joyce Kucera and Becky Reitz attended Hawke's Cheerleading Clinic in Grand Island. Many of the pep rallies conjured up by the cheerleaders were very unique with different spirit boosting stunts for the ath- letes and coaches to take part in. The cheerleaders also performed a half-time pom-pom routine to the song Simple Man . With the support of the pep club, student body, and faculty, the cheerleaders led our basketball and football teams to a very successful year. A new concept for leadership in marching band was decided upon this year with the instigation of Drum Major and Drum Major- ette.
