Thirteen souls marched bravely rnto the basement of the Baptist Church to begin therr frrst day of school on September 2 1946 These thirteen consrsted of Sandra Arnt Keith Burk Mary Griffrths Phrl Gordon Cecelra Hawkes Carolyn Hollsteln Denms Nellrgan Calvm Trtus George Toth Ion Walkup Sandy Walkup Lucille Wrser and Gary Zergler As we entered Hugh School we were greeted by the new faces of many class mates Among these were Bob Abrrght Darwayne Counterman Donna Funk Fred Graham Ruth Heath Delaine McDonald and Brlly Rowe The offrcers for thrs year were the following President Calvtn Titus Vrce Presrdent Frank VanVoorh1s Secretary Bob Abrrght Treasurer Sandra Arnt LuluBel1e Vincent was nomlnated for Snow Queen The class was then imtrated by the Sophomores A party was held ln the Fire Hall on November 11 1955 At the end of the school year our class partrclpated rn the annual Fteld Day events Our Freshman class advrsors were Mrs Green and Mrs Rowe In the Sophomore year many of our classmates had left us They were Jane Baker Dale Butler Donna Funk Darwayne Counterman Willard Brum Gene Hunaman Janet Kurtz Larry Losey LEWIS Marshall Guy Luzier Brlly Rowe Irm Shrelds and Frank Vanvoorhrs However we did have two new classmates who were J1m Tesch and Geraldrne Masarrk The class officers thrs year were Presrdent Brll Wolf Vrce Presrdent Jon Walkup Secretary Caro lyn Hollstern Treasurer LuluBelle Vmcent Jean Cevela was our candidate for Snow Queen and Carolyn Hollstem was the candrdate for Homecomrng Queen One of the outstandmg events in our Sophomore year was the ordermg of our Class Rings We chose the Thunderfurd style The class was asked to serve at the Junror and Senror Banquet and also to usher for the Junror Play We had to furmsh flowers for the Baccalaureate Our class advrsor for thrs year was Mr Harshbarger Our Iunror year began pretty much wrth an even start We lost two of our classmates but we also garned two new members The two that we lost were Fred Graham and Ruth Heath The two new classmates were Jrm McFarland and Chuck Renfro The year was under the supervrsion of Mr Draper The offtcers for thrs year were Presrdent Calvrn Trtus Vrce President Jerry Bemamm Secretary Mary Jane Brandt Treasurer Jean Kruse Geraldrne Masarrk was nommated for Homecomrng Queen and Mary Grrffrths for Snow Queen candrdate The Iunror Play for that year was entrtled The Skeleton walks The cast was made up of Carolyn Hollstern Mary Jane Brandt George Toth Jon Walkup Sandy Walkup Sandra Amt Betty Anson Melvm Ferguson Jean Kruse Dennis , 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 I 1 1 1 1 1 ' . Zhu Wfchtofzq fcontdl Nelligan and Cecelia Hawkes Jean Cevela and Jack Hines were prompters and Kerth Burk, stage manager The play was drrected by Mr Swonk The theme for our I Hop was Southern Charm 'I'he decoratxons consrsted of a large manston wrth whlte prllars and a beauttful front lawn Drexel Lamb and hrs orchestra provlded the music for thts occasion Also as Juniors we had charge of the Alumm Banquet and ushertng for the Semor Play Our Senior Year is here at last lt started off very good under the superviston of Mr Draper who was again chosen to lead us through our last year We were sorry to see that Delton Tryon Lorene Campbell and Geraldtne Masarrk had left us but we were happy to see the new faces of Larry Beckman and Harry Thomas The class offtcers were Presrdent, Calvtn Tttus Vtce Presxdent Denny Nellrgan Secretary Mary Jane Brandt Treasurer Ion Walkup Correspondent Secretary Mary Grrfftths Student Council Representatrves were lean Cevela and B111 Wolf We started the year wrth our Semor Play It was entrtled Class Rxng, a three act comedy The cast consisted of Jean Cevela Ion Walkup George Toth Jean Kruse Betty Anson Sandy Walkup Harry Thomas Sandra Arnt Cecelta Hawkes Jack Hines Blll Ewrng Eleanor Swan Geraldme Stratton Keith Burke Shrrley Mlller Stage Manager was Gary Ziegler The play was a great success under the drrectton of Mrs Cole The next long awatted event was our Semor Prom The theme was Northern Fantasy The date chosen was December 27 1958 The prom whtch took place rn the new gym was decorated with a large twenty foot tree in the center of the floor Streamers of blue and white were draped from the center of the tree to the edge of the gym Multt colored spot lrghts were focused on the tree to create the effect of northem lrghts A small scene of Rudolph, with his red nose was placed at one end of the gym and the throne at the opposrte end The Downbeats furnrshed the musrc for our last and brggest dance of the year The prom was well attended by members of the student body as well as qurte a few towns people The Snow Queen was Eleanor Swan and her lung was Ion Walkup The Homecomrng Queen was Jean Cevela and her ktng was Brll Wolf The class colors are a ltght blue and whrte The class flowers are whrte carnations etched tn blue For the thrrty mne Sentors rn the Class of 1959 the frnal week of school marks the clrmax to a hrgh school career Thts all begrns on Sunday May 31 1959 for thts rs the nrght of Baccalaureate Then there wrll also be the annual Semor Class mght For some of us the most rmportant day of our ltves comes on June 3 1959 Thts rs the day of Commencement Thts nrght for some may bring 1oy but for others sadness wlll fill theu hearts for they realxze thetr School Days are over and thts may be the last trme they wtll meet wtth all therr classmates I Melvin Ferguson, and Denny Nelligan.
