These were two brg social events of the year, and we were very proud of our chorce of candrdates As the school bells rang in 1955, an eager group of Sophomores made therr way through the halls of L H S We found that dre famrlrar faces of Delores Sayles, David Scoggrns, Donna Cavenaugh, Reta Cochrane, Mae Ruth Dodds, Brenda Larsen, Guy Luzrer, and Mrda Norton were gone Also mxssing was Peggy Nelligan who had started school wrth out class Of course we were sorry they had left us, but to parnally take their place we had Janet Heath and Sue Oteney Another member who had left us, but could not be replaced, was Kurt Zregler Hrs death rs the one dark spot rn our class hlsta-y, however our memories of Kurt will never be forgotten. Nelligan, Swope, ,T. Wade, Director, Mr. Spaulding. The Litchfield High School Band began the school year under the direction of Mr. Kenneth Spaulding. The band first began to prepare for the shows to be put on during the half-time of the football game. Among the shows was one depicting the Seasons of the Year and another in which they used the theme of the song Around the World in Eighty Days in which they took you to the Eiffel Tower, to China with a rickshaw, to the Golden Gate Bridge, and back to Michigan. The band was also invited to Western Michigan at Kalamazoo for Band Day. After this the band prepared for contest, which was hald on March 1, at Brooklyn, Michigan. Here, the band played three numbers: a warm-up march, a selected con- cert piece, and a required number. The band received a III rating, which is an average performance with marked promise. The band was then asked to play for P.T.A., which they did at the February meet- ing. Later in the year they put on the annual Spring Concert. The year was climaxed when they marched at the Memorial Day Parade. Junior Bond 4-V 'H gm ,ff-, I , gg ua, M una Back row: R. Faulkner, 1. Teal, O. Simpson A. Denbrock, M. Howard A. MWF, ' , J u n io r Play THE SKELETON WALKS When Charles Blair dies and leaves his home and property to his wife, who later dies and seemingly leaves them to no one, a web of mystery and intrigue is woven around Elaine Blaire fCarolynElserj, their great-niece. In the automobile of her cousin, Anne Rowell QSandra Arntj, Elaine and her mother, Mrs. Embrey fMary Jane Brandtj, her lawyer-fiance, Bill Clayton QDennis Nelliganj, and her half-brother and half-sister, Bobby QMelvin Fergusonj and Kathleen Kinks Embrey QSandra Walkupj journey to the old house, which is situated on an island. To their surprise, they find the house obviously inhabited, and they are met by the suave, mysterious Dr. Fersig fGeorge Tothj. Both Dr. Fersig and Elaine know that a large sum of money is secreted on the premises, but only Elaine knows exactly where. Dr. Fexsig con- fidently claims ownership of the property by revealing the unconvincing fact that Mrs. Blaire made her own will, bequeathing the disputed possessions to him for payment of debts. Elaine is suspicious of the hospitable mystery-man despite her mother's warnings to be careful, and Bill is determined to acquire the house for her even if by court action. When Ollie QBett'y Ansonj, the deaf-dumb son of Dr. Fersig's housekeeper, Mrs. Hubbard Uon Walkupj, blows up the bridge to the mainland and compels Elaine and her family and friends to remain on the island ovemight, strange things happen. Bobby and Kinks, whose crazy antics lend comedy to the situa- tion, make great discoveries of a human bone and a woman in the attic. The woman Uean Kruse, later identifies herself as Mrs. Donahue, a mentally incompetent, but quite harmless old lady whose house burned and whose husband mysteriously disappeared. The plot, thickening when Elaine disappears, comes to its climax when she discloses the whereabouts of the money and it is proven that Dr. Fersig, after stealing Mrs. Dona.hue's diamonds, started the fire which lcilled Mr. Donahue and was supposed to have taken his wife victim, too. Dr. Fersig, who also forced Mrs. Blaire to write the document willing her home to the doctor, is promptly taken to jail by Mrs. Hubbard and Ollie, who reveal themselves respectively as jack and jane Dow, famous detectives. As a humorous closing Bobby, with a sheet over him, rushes in moaning, causing Mrs. Embrey to faint into the arms of her future son-in-law, and inquires, What has a ghost got that I haven't? When Mrs. Donahue threatens the lives of Kinks, Anne, and Mrs. Embrey, Bobby sneaks up behind Mrs. Donahue and gets the best of her with his gun .
