SN te ae Pe a bloom into apparent realities, 4 Some young person may be looking forward great will suddenly present itself, and all that-he will heve to do is to assume that great- ness, for it will be his without extra effort or struggle on his part. The trouble is that it rarely happens just that way. Success comes to one after he has worked with a zest and prepared Rimselt: to achieve it, It is not a case’ of Presto, change, and, lo and behold, success is thrust upon one, but it is a problem of meeting succossfully the different situations in life as they present themselves. The young person should not set out to seek popularity, to be found somewhere in the distant futures; he shouid seek a place to serve at the present time. We are told that young people often fail to catch the vision of true and lasting success. y They fail to realize that opportunitics to achieve gi are fight at hand, even av thoir very door-step,. Suceces comes through ths doing of the many lit- tle things that are round about one ell the time. § In seeking to do well everything that we do we 7 .78). should acquire habits of 2ndustry and thorough- ness that can safely be carricd with us throughs le out life. A task well donc is an excellent sign i-IKy -to those above us that we are capable of accept- ing more important dutics. Many times we have lived this hour in anticipa- tion, but we never really sensed the swectness and the fullness and the fineness of this important ana Stirring occasion until tonight. It is hard to de- seribe this glorious, wonderful feeling which enfulfs 18. yz PAM 2S SE ' Ve aro sure that it gives you satisfaction, as it docs us, that wo have finished what wo have start- sd and have earned diplomas which secm to challenge s to push forward to the commencement of bigger and etter things. The men who now guide the destinics of the world sgonce stood just as we stand, at the parting of the (| eter and looked ahead expectantly, eagerly, end per- ‘ haps half fearfully, to see what life held in store ror them, We, too, are doing that very thing now. We are deeply and seriously conscious of: what he people of this community have done for us, and of the many privleges which have been ours... We shall lways hold in mind tenderly and gratefully all that hese years have meant to us, all they have brought o us and alli they have taught, for we ere inevitably 'a part of all we have met.” Thomas Henry Huxley said, Perhaps the most val- able result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not; it is the first fosson that ought to be learned; and however early a ants training begins it is probably the last lesson hat he learms thoroughly. , We hope that our goals may be achieved and that fe may always posscss the power to confront obstac- E6s which may threaten to block our way. We wish to thank youfor coming hore tonight. fe are indeed proud to know that you are interested n our accomplishments, and it is our sincerest de- pire to make you more proud of us in the years to Sr OmMC. | The class of 1941 salutes you! ae, Susan Dangelo Salutatorian Ss os es i ee eS ; , — .
