TIA ,I Following a progressive four years at Lisbon High, the out- going '68 Seniors culminated the period on graduation night, June eleventh. The processional march into the auditorium was a magnificent spectacle in the tradition of graduations. Emotions of happiness, sadness, relief, apprehension showed on the faces of both the seniors and parents in the audience. 68 Seniors Presem A high point of the event was the presentation of a persona portrait to Mr. Higgins from his appreciative students. Then the climax of twelve years of learning arrived wher Superintendent Ladner awarded the diplomas and tassels wer' changed to symbolize the event. At that point a group o happy seniors marched up the aisle. Cheryl Krog speaks as her classmates search the audience for a familiar face. Barbara Lamb, senior class president, addresses the audience. l w A present from his grateful seniors. Mixed emotions at a serious moment. Following commencement ceremonies the newly graduated class wound its way around the perimeter of the gym and spilled into the school corridor. Gpodbyes were uttered for maybe the last time. It was not the end of the road for many but instead the beginning of a new life-perhaps military service, college or vocational school, marriage or even back to high school. . The final procession to the receiving line, and tears of A long awzuted moment for Sue Yenco Superintendent Richard Ladner, an honored speaker. 'N f ' ff?'-L-933442, --,-.,. ..,, 1' m ' 5621! 'gli 1. , , SPGRTS Sprinting from defeat in their first season game against Winthrop, the Greyhounds swept to a final triumph in sharing the Mountain Valley Conference trophy. The turning point in the spectacular season was the Mt. Blue game. Both Randy Matthews and Larry Fournier scored twice in that game to lead Lisbon to a 26-20 vic- tory over the undefeated Cougers and give them a tre- mendous boost toward the final League Championship. With previous triumphs over Mexico and Telstar and a jarring loss to Hall-Dale, the Greyhounds record now stood at 3-2. The grid squad went on to battle Jay and a decisive safety by defensive tackle White chalked up another victory for Lisbon to tie the record of their next opponent, Livermore. Lisbon's hopes for the Conference Title appeared to dim as the Andies returned the opening kick-off to lead 7-0. But excellent ball carrying by Larry Fournier and skilled touchdowns by Rines and Matthews lifted Lisbon over its rival to a 5-2 rating. Lisbon High wound up its 1968 football season by trouncing host Williams 20-0 to finish in a tie for a share of the Mountain Valley conference with Winthrop. Plagued by injuries at the beginning of their season, Lisbon re-scrambled its offensive to produce a winning combination. Most of the replacements came as capable sophomores, except for junior Frank Myska, who filled in as quarterback for Ed Gayton, who was side-lined with a knee injury. A lot of credit must go to former end Myska, who quickly adjusted to his new position. Myska, Matthews, Fournier, and Rines struggled for the most yardage, and were backed up by a tenacious defense headed by four seniors, Jim Caron, Harvey White, Wayne Robichaud, and Roger Rines. .W Randy Matthews dodges pig-pile to gain yardage. 18 Greyhounds Sprin' :E- Quarterback Myska drags Jay Tigers toward Lisbon goal Myska hands off and Larry goes. o Title Tie Sept. 7 Sept. 14 Sept. 21 Sept. 28 Oct. 5 Oct. 12 Oct. 26 Nov. 2 lg' jf: I iv 1 f ,-'as L. 1 ' 'f ffl J ' ' Fl 131,45 ..-'gg yy. f rf. :f777ffi?f-7. , V311 wu.M.1.A1. Cheerleaders Lift Spirits Without the help of a pep squad or a bus to take students to the away basketball games, the cheerleaders had to fight an uphill battle to lift school spirit. This year, at the football games, the cheerleaders were backed by both students and adults. In the fall, a rally was held and a Hall-Dale Player was burned in effigy. During basketball season, the cheerleaders encouraged audience participation by joining them in the bleachers. The cheerleaders took an active part in many other activ- ities. By sponsoring a dance and selling shampoo, the cheer- leaders raised enough money to buy themselves new basketball uniforms. Raising money for jackets for the football team, M.V.C. Co-State Champs, the Cheerleaders held a Tag Day sponsored by the Booster's Club. The squad also held several School Color Days and attended a National Cheerleader's Association clinic at Andover, Mass. The Lisbon squad started out strong, taking the first 4 out of 6, but handicapped by injuries to Gayton and Lapointe, they hit a slump and were continually edged out in the final seconds. After beating Mt. Blue by only l point, the hoopsters were squeezed out by No. 2 Winthrop in the final seconds after a fine game. Larry Mclver and Harvey White go in for the rebound. Varying line-ups were employed this year, with Plummer, Myska, White, Matthews, Craig, and Lapointe seeing most of the action. Dick Plummer proved to be the leading rebounder and was second only to Frank Myska in total points g Myska-278, Plummer-261. Paul Craig was one of the main ball-carriers and also hit very well. Lisbon will be able to capitalize on its wealth of experience because it will lose only one of its Fme players by graduation, Harvey White. The team consisted of only three seniors: Terry Karkos Cwho was injured and had to drop out in the middle of the seasonj, Vicky Herling, and Ann Hlister. The rest of the team were all J.V. players from last year, coming through with fine performances on the varsity team. These underclassmen were Meg Andrews, Brenda Tebbets, Sherry Ester, Dolly Gensure, and Joanne Guarino. Subs were Marilyn Withers and Michelle Guarino. Fan attendance at girls games was poor but the girls nevertheless displayed a good deal of spirit when they played the experienced teams. They racked up a commendable record of five wins and four losses for the season. This is all the more remarkable in that several of these wins were against much larger schools in the league. All in all a fine season. Meg Andrews CNo. 221, with assist from Sherry Estes, controls ball for Lisbon. Anna Hlister: The great cover Up! Sherry Estes leaps for a jump ball.
