Gould, F, Marstaller, C loorus Kroken, oonggnn ji Fl-'ual Band The L, H, S. band started off in a marching manner this year, Band members paraded at all of the home football games in spite of some bad weather. They also traveled to Farmington on October 28th to play at a night game. A new drill was the main attraction, A joint concert with Walton Junior High School on February l0th marked the beginning of the concert season. A concert with Hallowell High School followed shortly after. The band traveled to Rumford in May to parade at the Western Maine Music Festival. Also, four members of the band were chosen to attend the Maine All-State Band Concert which was held in Bangor, A great asset to the band this year has been its eight snappy majorettes who did an excellent job of twirling at the football games and the music festival. Three majorettes including the leader, Martha Adams, will be graduating in June. Yeneo, Manager G, Williams. junior Varsity Basketball In the first place, I think you should be reminded that the purpose of junior varsity basketball is not to win games, but rather to prepare the players for varsity basketball in the future. In junior varsity ball, the boys learn not only the fundamentals of basketball, but also good sportsmanship and skill. The team as a whole did fairly well this years however. The record of ten wins and ten losses would have been improved by the scoring of only a few points, such as in the following cases: the game with Bridgton was lost by two points, 43 - 45: the one with Williams of Oakland, by only one point, 38 - 39g and with Freeport, by another one point margin, 60 - 61, A definite improvement was shown in the team during the last nine games, of which we won seven. Basketball Lisbon High's glorious basketball team, which was last year's Western Maine Runner-ups, opened the 1955-56 basketball season by dumping Lincoln Academy, '12-41. The boys played well despite the fact that not a week before they were playing on the state championship football team. Lisbon's basketeers crushed all unbeaten opposition, After piling up eleven straight wins, the law of averages took its toll and Lisbon lost to arch-rival, Winthrop, 59-58, Unshaken, Lisbon started another unbeaten string, Lisbon got back at all the teams that had been beating them badly. Bridgton, who had never suffered a defeat at the hand of Lisbon, was stopped after our boys toppled them 57-40 and 50-29. There is no need to tell how well the boys played, for the score tells everything, Another first was when Lisbon beat Richmond in their own gym, That soore was 47-40, One of the high lights of the season, was a thrilling game with Cape Elizabeth, who up to that time hadn't been beaten. Lisbon was looking forward to a win, when suddenly they were told that Wes Jor- dan was definitely out for the season due to illness, Of course, the boys were downhearted, but they still believed that they could win. The night of the big game, Coach Danforth, informed Randy Kroken, that he would be holding down the center slot, vacated by Jordan, It was a big job for Randy, but with understanding and the help of the coach and boys, he played an outstanding game. Although behind at the end of the first two periods, lisbon came out at the half and started a rally that was too strong for the Capers. In the last quarter, the Cape tried to start a definite rally, but each time it was stopped. Cape tried valiantly, but Lisbon won a thriller, 57-56. In the toumament at Wiscasset, Lisbon was seeded first. In their first game, Lisbon broke all records for toumament play, scoring 100 points in the game, and a remarkable 42 points in the second period. Lisbon won the tournament and went to Iewiston seeded second. In the semi-finals, lisbon met its down- fall at the hands of Cape Elizabeth who went on to win the state title. Though we lost, in the state tour- nament, we are proud to have won the K. V. C. title. The cry of, 'Wait 'till next year, is still ringing, and with all the support of the fans, Lisbon should be up to give it another try, The town of Lisbon should be proud to have one of the best coaches in the state, Frank Danforth. Bickford, Soon after school opened last fall, over twenty-five girls assembled for cheering try-outs, The fac- ulty chose twelve, six to be varsity members and the remaining six to be J. V. 's. The cheerleaders have been especially lucky in two respects this year, For the basketball season, the Farnsworth Mill donated some material for both squads of cheerleaders. We have spent much time making our uniforms and practicing old and new cheers. Also, the newly developed pep squad has helped us considerably.
