Clockwise from top: Hungry students pour out of chapel and head upstairs for a quick lunch before dashing to another class. Pi Delta pledge Beth Parrish has to get John Craig and Adam Waller to sign her book. Ann Quillian and Anita Hyche share a friendly conversation on the back steps of Johnson West after a long day of classes. Kelly Meredith and Matt Little are all smiles when getting out of lab early. 2 Opening The Future’s so Bright. . Have You Found A. Comesteation Te Woon, Wansmr, aap Feces Wren? HLS, oyac OF cunist? “Though we speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, we have be- come as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal ... ” Our voices carried far and wide this year as David Lips- comb College became David Lipscomb University. We spoke on radio, television, and in the paper. “... And though we have the gift of prophesy, and under- stand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though we have all faith, so that we could move mountains, but have not love, we are nothing ... ” We studied the Bible, we grew in faith. Our leaders and teachers had a depth of knowl- edge beyond our comprehen- sion — they understood mys- teries which we could not fathom. “.. And though we bestow all our goods to the poor, and though we give our bodies to be burned, but have not love, it profits us nothing ... .” We gave to people hit by Hurricane Gilbert, to the little burned Gillaspie boy, to the in- ner city, and to many others as the need arose.

4 Opening Clockwise: Surprised by the grade on his paper, Lincoln Hanks can’t resist re-reading his English teach- er’s comments. Mike Carmody returns the ball with a smashing blow on the courts beside Dugan Field. Jill Tharp returns from “Kroger- ing” for her Delta Delta sisters during the first week of pledging. Catherine Sabal heads to her so- cial work class. Janet McKinley studies for her next business test on the steps out- side Johnson Hall. Axel Oder returns from the Post Office with a box containing amoebas for Dr. Fisher. Victor Hunter enjoys the quietness of a late, cool October afternoon. But these are not the things which set Lipscomb apart. Every school makes changes worthy of media attention, has knowledgable teachers, and does charitable deeds. “Love suffers long and is kind; Love does not envy; Love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; Does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, Is not provoked, thinks no evil; Does not rejoice in iniquity, But rejoices in truth; Love bears all things, Believes all things, Hopes all things, Endures all things.” In class, in chapel, in the dorms, and in Bison Square these were our ideals. We suffered together and rejoiced together. We looked for good in friends and truth in life. We believed, hoped, and en- dured. There were times we failed, but we forgave. And we always re- membered that, “now abide faith, hope, love — these three; but the greatest of these is love — I Corin- thians 13 — Dietlinde Spears —This is why our Future is So Bright! photos by Bob Lawler
