The Barretts of ® An old cliche says that histo- Wimpole Street ry repeats itself. That was the case with the 1988 Homecom- ing drama, The Barretts of Wimpole Street. In 1948, the senior class chose this play for their first production at David Lipscomb College. Henry Ar- nold and his future wife, Bernie Wycoff, portrayed the two leading roles as Robert Brown- ing and Elizabeth Barrett. In 1988, The Barretts of Wimpole Street was performed at David Lipscomb University with Mark Paulk and Vali Forrister in the romantic leads. The play concerns the des- potic father, Edward Barrett, and his iron-gripped control over his children. 22 Homecoming Homecoming The weekend of November 12 was a very special time for Lipscomb students, faculty, and alumni, as Lipscomb host- ed its annual Homecoming. In- cluded in the festivities were the Bison Bash, class reunions, and basketball games. The ac- tivities began on Thursday, November 10, with the Class of 1948 Reunion Dinner. That evening the Bison Bash took place outside of Elam Hall. Amid doughnuts, bonfires, and hot chocolate, the cheerleaders boisterously rallied the stu- dents for the DLU Tusculum game that night. The highlight of Bison Bash was the crown- ing of Miss Bison, Celeste Pendlebrook, alias Brad Wal- den. The crowd then moved to McQuiddy Gym to cheer the Bisons to a 130-80 victory. Saturday’s Homecoming ac- tivities officially began with a breakfast for Representatives of the Decades. Several coffee parties were held for class re- unions. Classes as far back as 1948 and as recent as 1983 gathered, along with the Gold- en Circle, the alumni who graduated fifty years or more prior to 1988. Various social clubs also hosted teas for grad- uated club members. Chapel was held at 10 a.m. Afterwards Chorale, A Cappella, and Freshman Chorus sang togeth- er, joined by the Alumni Chorus.
