Miss Bison 18 Miss Bison Contest The Miss Bison Contest is quickly becoming an exciting tradition for Lipscomb’s home- coming. This year, six partici- pants competed for the honor of being the second Miss Bison: Jo Linda Bates (Joe Bohan- non), Ophelia Bunz (Dale Lawrence), Buffy Lo (Maury Mitchell), Monica Monroe (Donald Harz), Celeste Pend- lebrook (Brad Walden), and Beata Tusculum (Lance Per- ry). Brett Holladay hosted the contest as students sat outside Elam to watch the action. Each contestant was introduced and took her place on the stage. They did, however, have to show their intelligence in order to win. Each was asked an in- terview question and required to answer on the spot. While the Bison cheerlead- ers were selecting the winners, Adama Burnadette (Adam Burnette) came to make her fi- nal appearance as the reigning Miss Bison. When the results were announced, everyone knew that the interview ques- tion had made the difference. When asked what she wished for most, Celeste Pendlebrook replied, “ ... a date with Chris Cashwell, because he looks just like George Michael!’ — Shana Pounders photos by Bob Lawler

The Barretts of ® An old cliche says that histo- Wimpole Street ry repeats itself. That was the case with the 1988 Homecom- ing drama, The Barretts of Wimpole Street. In 1948, the senior class chose this play for their first production at David Lipscomb College. Henry Ar- nold and his future wife, Bernie Wycoff, portrayed the two leading roles as Robert Brown- ing and Elizabeth Barrett. In 1988, The Barretts of Wimpole Street was performed at David Lipscomb University with Mark Paulk and Vali Forrister in the romantic leads. The play concerns the des- potic father, Edward Barrett, and his iron-gripped control over his children. It is the story of how the eldest child, Eliza- beth, escapes his domineering grasp, falls in love, and eventu- ally marries her admirer and fellow poet, Robert Browning. — Joel Meriwether photo by Crystal Reppart photo by Crystal Reppart photo by Crystal Reppart photo by Bob Lawler 20 Homecoming Play
