Success can be defined in many different ways. Katheryn Camp, a freshman from Talladega, Ala., said the success of David Lips- comb College is “the people.” “A strong bond exists between students and between students and faculty,’ commented John Roberson, a junior from Dayton, Tenn.” We are not retaining job skills. We are learning a way of life and a way of peace.” Lispcomb has felt the changes of this country in 1987, such as the crash of the stock market, and undergone changes of its own. A still-new president, the tranfor- mation of the home economics de- partment, and a new telephone system are only a few of the nu- merous changes that have oc- curred here. But even in this con- stantly-changing world, our attitudes decide the degree of our success. Students are taught to think, to adjust to the changes, to come up with solutions for the problems of our society, and to care about each other along the way. That’s really no secret, and it’s been a highly successful for- mula for many Lipscomb gradu- ates over the past ninety-seven years. 'G Opening

Opening Is It Our attitude? The success of America is based on people who have an attitude which allows them to work to- ward their goals. The success of David Lipscomb can be explained in the same terms. The 1987-1988 Backlog staff hopes to have cap- tured the successes and the changes just as they occurred. We also hope we have captured the attitudes of David Lipscomb Col- lege — The secret of our success. photo by Pam Harper. z 1€ 86 4 1 yy Pt 7-1 (Of 1 4 16 18 Le tO LEY Just changing the air. Beth Roland, a freshman from Chattanooga, stretches to view her mailbox in hope of a letter from home or maybe even a chapel notice. Through rain, sleet, or hail, there's no stopping campus mail. Jim Forrester heads back to the post office after his morning mail-run. Not a trivial matter. Leann Ellis, Jana Treadway, and Sarah Besson take a break during the hectic week to play Trivial Pursuit in the courtyard of Fanning Games such as this provide many Lipscomb students the opportunity to “release a little tension.”
