Each of these were solutions to problems, a fulfilling of a need. Mr. Nile Yearwood saw these needs. He took a closer look at his own capabilities and found what he could do to help, not only the college, but the entire institution. Through this devotion, Mr. Yearwood was responsible for the building of the Burton Administration Building in the 1930's, Yearwood Hall, the Swang Center, and the Reese Smith Athletic Complex. For a time, he also served as a member of the Board of Directors and now as part of the National Development Board. Mr. Yearwood took a closer look at us, himself, the future and the school’s potential. Without him, our campus would have too many gaping, obvious holes. To him we dedicate this book. eight: Mr. Yearwood was honored at the opening of newly-finished Yearwood fall.

ake a closer look and imagine... Imagine, if you can, the campus without a ‘ women’s dorm, one that some freshmen can only dream about, hoping they can one day indulge in its luxuries as seniors... Well, then, imagine the campus without the maze of classrooms behind Alumni Auditorium, ones of all sizes and colors like the cozy, yellow Room 303 where a student might address his first speech with knocking knees... Or how about the campus without a building that unifies the business administration department, increasing its strength and therefore its already superior reputation... Imagine the high school football team without a home field, always having to be the “away’’ team, or Lipscomb tracksters without that quarter of a mile... Although opinions may vary concerning the importance of each of these structures, they have all made their place on campus, filling giant gaps in the educational landscape.
