(t) | he idea of a Liberal Arts educa- wi tion is quickly losing its power due to emphasis of the times upon busi- ness, computers, and economics. According to Lisa Birnback, author of The College Book, limited time and money are the main concerns of many students when choosing areas of study, instead of experimentation and ideals. In this age of high-tech and getting ahead, it is hard to think otherwise. Lipscomb has joined schools nation- wide by falling victim to the decline of the so-called humanities. A majority of students major in accounting or some other field in the Department of Busi- ness Administration. However, this business-like attitude attracts many oth- er students who want to enter the job market trained and prepared immedi- ately. A national trend of double-majoring helps solve some of these problems, combining the humanities with earning power. For instance, art and physics may be chosen for an architectural em- phasis. At this point, prospective students are unaware of the opportunities and chal- lenges within a business career, in which a background of training in the humanities would prove valuable, and businesses are unsure of contributions these students can make without having completed substantial technical train- ing. The humanities may again regain the strength enjoyed during more laid-back times of past eras (dating back to the earliest universities) when ‘time means money’ is no longer the prevalent atti- tude.
