14 SReereation™ Quite representative of its first place for cre- ative development, ‘“‘Fun Trek’’ seized the youn- ger audience with space visitors X, Y, and Zoot from the planet Fretonia on a frantic mission to find fun. ‘‘Recreation’’ as directed by Steve Kirby covered the full gambit of American past- times in an entertainment-packed weekend. Del- ta Nu, Delta Sigma, Gamma Xi, Sigma Phi, and Zeta Nu decided that everyone goes together when discovering the avenues of American re- creation.

A tradition all its own, Singarama 1981 ex- ploded in a pageantry of Great American Tradi- tions to culminate the spring season’s main event. The production brought together a variety of novice student performers to portray the American way of life as it revolves around our home, work, recreation and school. In its eigh- teenth annual year, this theme ran deep with nostalgia, for these traditions depict the hub of campus life reminisced by both students and alumni. These embracing customs of home, work, recreation, and school sprang to life in Singarama’s characteristic showmanship. This Singarama witnessed the birth of yet a new tradition. A distinctive precedent emerged when the evening’s host and hostess were se- lected from among the student body. It was a fitting decision, for outside talent would surely have not matched the dynamite residing in Sheri- lyn Harless and Kevin Arvin. Their diverse musi- cal craftsmanship and striking professionalism sparkled with the essence of entertainment. They provided the magical link to tie the pieces together and present a packaged extravaganza. The Henderson Family Reunion provided a timeless setting to portray ‘“‘Home’’ in Mike Per- ry’s rendition of ‘‘We Are Family’’. The audience journeyed via flashback to see the Hendersons experience the pre-Civil War South, the meager Depression days, and the groovy Viet Nam era to endure as a family united. Taking first place in the Music Category, these strong voices be- longed to Gamma Lambda, Kappa Phi, Omega Nu, Psi Alpha, Sigma lota Delta, and Theta Tau. A rehearsal studio in New York proved to be the suitable location for ‘‘Workin’’ as they were awarded first place in staging and costume. Ker- ry Anderson represented ‘‘Work’’ with its com- petitive edge and rewarding efforts by present- ing a show within a show. A flood of emotions and memories swept through “‘The Old Schoolyard’’ as Joey Wat- son’s ‘‘School’’ captured the judges’ votes to become the Sweepstakes Winner. An older English teacher was coaxed out of retirement by the seniors’ expression of sentiment when ihey dedicated their annual in her honor. Del- ta Delta, Lambda Psi, Phi Omega, Sigma Chi Delta, and Tau Phi recreated the nostalagia of alma mater and graduation as they re- membered school. 15
