22 ‘Main Street, USA’ Takes Honors The Main Street of River City was like the traditional main streets of many small towns. It was the city’s center for trade, entertainment, gossip, and the meeting place for al- most every major activity. It was the site for the Founder’s Day Parade, held each year in memory of J. Ran- dall Ardmore, the beloved founder of River City. It was here that the resi- dents of River City heard of the plans for the new four-lane highway to go down their beloved Main Street, and a confrontation took place between the mayor and these fine residents. 1, 2. River City’s citizens prepare for Founder's day while Mr. Poole deviously plots the fate of Main Street.3. Cynthia Malone leads the parade with ‘‘Seventy-six Trom- bones. ’ 4. The town discovers Mr. Poole's plot and protests. 5. The barbarshop quartet, including Marty Roe, Buddy Barrett, Mark Smith, and Dennis Barr, is the hit of the fes- tivities. 6. J. 24 Bison Square took on the atmo- sphere of a carnival on November 11, as Bison Day 1980 took place, heralding the opening of basketball season at Lipscomb. This annual event once again gave campus so- cial clubs the opportunity to exer- cise their creativity, and many club members were found cavorting around campus as munchkins, wiz- ards, M M’s, yachtsmen and such, and even an invisible force. Following the official proclamation of Bison Day in chapel, President Collins was once again bestowed with gifts from each club, and the brightly costumed clubs preceeded to demonstrate their school spirit in step and verse. McQuiddy Gymnasi- um rocked with some quite imagina- tive chanting which continued on to Bison Square and the afternoon pep rally. continued on page 26 1. Kim McAfee, as Gamma Lambda’s Tin Man, chants their theme cheer. 2. Bison Cheer- leaders ead the social clubs in spirit competi- tion. 3. Pi Delta takes first place in the wom- en's club competition. 4. Kappa Chi advo- cates a candy-coated victory for the Bisons. 5. Psi Alpha cheers for a Bison victory. 6. Zeta Nu actives swarm into their hive, admonish- ing everyone to ‘‘Bee for the Bisons. ’ 7. A l- pha Sigma girls take on the magical appear- ance of genies in the spirit of Bison Day. 8. Samauri Sigma Chi wins first place in the men’s competition. 9, 10.
