22 ‘Main Street, USA’ Takes Honors The Main Street of River City was like the traditional main streets of many small towns. It was the city’s center for trade, entertainment, gossip, and the meeting place for al- most every major activity. It was the site for the Founder’s Day Parade, held each year in memory of J. Ran- dall Ardmore, the beloved founder of River City. It was here that the resi- dents of River City heard of the plans for the new four-lane highway to go down their beloved Main Street, and a confrontation took place between the mayor and these fine residents. 1, 2.
