The officers for Student Council were: Steve Istas, Dawn Hylton, David Hiatt, and Scott Malone. Student council has been a hard working, enthusiastic group this year. The fall began with Student council in charge of concession stand at football games, to help make money for homecoming. This year's Homecoming was one to be long remembered. The stuco helped in sponsoring class floats, a bonfire, a parade, and the annual Homecoming dance. The Student Council worked hard on all these activities. At Christmas they sponsored a movie with popcorn and mid- morning brunch, a fun way to send everyone off for the holiday season. January began with plans for the Queen and King of Courts cere- mony and dance. The Student Council worked hard to make this the best since it would be the last LHS dance. The Student Council spent much time and effort to make this year n Against all odds the 1988-89 Lin wood Bulldog is presented by Mrs. Zimmer's yearbook staff. From ad selling trips in the fall to the last deadline in June. Deanna Franklin, Paige Johnson, Dava Carlton, Janice Pitts, Dawn Flylton. Anna Richardson, Jeff Wiles, and Laura Franklin have labored in their cozy staff quarters during 4th hour. They have chased down the halls camera in hand, agonized over each picture, typed, re-typed, argued, guarded the candy machine and occasionally, lacking other inspiration, have sere- naded each other with tunes on the piano, to bring you the final yearbook of Lin wood High School. 29 THE NEWS With the typewriter going, the stenograph run- ning off, and advisor Ms. Anne Bemis trying to keep track of all her staff and the story dead- lines, the “BULLDOG BARKER never failed to come out, informing the public about the many events; a walk-out, class floats for a parade, candy machine, a new principal, sports, consolidation of schools and various other news stories. The paper helped in re- cording the last days in the History of Linwood High School. 30 Bottom Picture: Anne Bemis, David Hiatt, Deanna Franklin. Tony Istas, Buddy Johnson, Kieth Kauff- man. The band's agen- da included many things, such as per- forming at home football games. K.U. Band Day. Veteran's Day Parade. LHS Winter Concert, and they journeyed to the State Music Festival. The choir spent most of their time preparing for the perfor- mance of “Funky Winkerbean's Home- coming” which took place on March 18 and 19. Mr. Thornton had previously coached eight years before giving up the sport to be- come head girls basketball coach. He returned as coach this year to keep the program from being dropped after the resigna- tion of Jack Morris, former coach. With Linwood playing foot- ball for it's last season, the team wanted to make it one to remember — and WHAT A SEASON! Under the watchful eyes of Coach Thornton and assis- tant coach, Ed Dorssom, the Bulldogs rolled over oppo- nent after opponent with speed, defense and style, going undefeated until the last game and a sub-state loss to Midway-Denton. Queen Dava Carlton and her escort. Buddy Johnson ruled over festivities along with their court, consisting of Pam Johnson and Dawn Hylton and escorts Scott smith and David Hiatt. The theme for the dance was Here I Go Again and the evening was enhanced with decorations provided by the Pep Club, and a guest DJ spin- ning the hits. Special guests for the evening included two for- mer homecoming queens: Amy Walkenhorst (1986), es- corted by Tony Istas, who re- turned to pass on her crown; and Sherry Morris (1977), who was escorted by Scott Ma- lone. 51 Never Say Goodbye was on every- one's mind at LHS's last King and Queen of Courts dance. The gym was decorat- ed with balloons on the stage, on the floor, and around a heart made out of wood which was the entrance way. Streamers were hanging down from the center of the gym. There were tables for students to sit at while they weren't dancing. Jessy Clifton was the DJ for the night. — Rhonda Everhart Stuco. the host for King and Queen of Courts, organized into four groups for everything from ordering crowns and flowers to getting candidates Rachel Bosworth. PROM 1938 mm v As April rolled around once again, with it came the excitement and frustration of prom. The Junior class had many meet- ings that ended up in nothing but chaos, but through it all, they still managed to bring together a very memorable night that all will remember. The dance was held at the Eldridge Hotel in Lawrence, and started at 8:00. The night ended at 11:30 with the theme song Stairway to Heaven. Many ask themselves if they have achieved all the goals they set when they started. Some are happy that the road has ended, while others are unsure or even scared about what the road ahead holds for them. Never will they forget the friends that have blessed their lives, even though there are many separate roads we must all travel down. Never has the importance of close friends been as evident as during their senior year. The seniors here at Linwood High School have had part of the en- chantment taken from them during their most unforgetta- ble year with the consolidation of our second home we have all been touched deeply by the decision. However, we made the best of it and gave it our all. Along with the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, the seniors united to prove that the special bond that LHS gave us. was one that could not be broken. For all of us however, the time has come to go on now and tackle any obstacles that the roads ahead may bring. It is not possible to even summarize all the laughs and cries, the good times and the bad. nto a few words. All we have are the memories that we store and cherish in our minds and hearts, and those are what we will look back on — Deanna Franklin FAREWELL FROM SOPHOMORES When you grow up in a school where you are surrounded by people who love you, who have given you comfort, advice, and friendship, one of the most diffi- cult things to do is to imagine yourself without that place, and it is almost impossible to say good- bye. Fortunately, we don't have to do this alone. The past year has been full of conflict, crushed hopes, and tears. Knowing that everything you did at Linwood High School would be the last of its kind ... the last basketball season, the last Homecoming float, the last class trip ... makes the year even more emotional. However, we ALWAYS had our classmates and our friendships to fall back on, to pick us up, and to help us concentrate on enjoying our last year at Linwood to the fullest, and through eoch other, we were able to overcome most of the sadness. The Class of '90 has always been very close. We have always been able to pull together and make things happen. We've al- ways had the full support of our class. Together, we can with- stand almost anything.
