Although the team didn't reach all of the goals set in the presea- son. the Bulldogs did surprisingly well against most of their oppo- nents and finished with a 14-9 record. The team’s biggest loss of the season came at the hands of Jef- ferson County North during the championship finals of sub-state. The girls gave 100 percent in the final matches, what else could a coach ask for?” said first-year Coach Cathy Nealy. Getting sec- ond place in the sub-state tourney was a big disappointment to ev- eryone. but I was proud of my team.” While the team didn't go to the state tourney, the lady Bulldogs did place at all four tournaments in which they were entered. The bulldogs concluded the season with a I and 7 record and a lot of bruises. One of the main problems plaguing the team was a lack of participation. At the beginning of the season the team started out with around 30 members and a lot of incentive. Their first time out the Bulldogs lost to Lone Jack 6-0. It was a game they should have won. Things went downhill for the rest of the season. The number of players dwindled from 30 to 12. After that injuries took care of a few more. Linwood was forced to play 11 man football during a few games, something that wasn't healty for anyone. Practices were another problem. It was hard to do much with only a few people. Most of the time coaches and other innocent bystanders had to participate in practice. After it was all over the Bulldogs ended up with 12 bruised bodies and another losing season. 39 Thornton yelling at the men FOOTBALL SCOREBOARD Linwood Opponent 0 Lone Jack 6 14 Troy 60 12 Burlingame 33 6 Lyndon 18 6 KSD 14 0 Highland 42 0 Williamsburg 18 40 'Another one bites the dust Smith talks to Official Women’s Basketball The 1980-81 LHS women's basketball team recorded their best season ever with an 11-5 record and a third-place finish at the Lyndon Invitational. The second half of the season the team showed improvement and proceeded to make an attempt to reach the State play-offs.
