Softball 1 947 The Pirate softball season wasn't too suc- cessful this year. At the end of the season, the Pirates had won one game and lost six. Due to the fact that the team is losing only two men, Baer and Fordyce, fans are looking forward to a good season next year. This was the first year that a softhall tour- nament was held in YVahash County. Chester won the final game, claiming the crown. The schedule for this year was as follows Linlawn Lincolnville 6 Linlawn Laketon 26 Linlawn Lafontaine 17 Linlawn Central 20 Linlawn Chippewa 13 Linlawn Lagro 15 1 947- 1 948 Cage Season To open the season, the Lagro Comets yentured to the Pirates' goal-house and were defeated hy a score of 48 to 31. Neilson led the victors hy tallying 13 points, and lilward led the Comets with 10 points. On Novemher 7, the small Pirate team traveled to the Chester hardwood and were de- feated hy the Panthers 65 and 13 points res- peetivelygand Piper dropped in 25 points for the Panthers. Our next game was with our old rivals, Chippevvxa, which was played at lVahash High School. The Howardmen hlew up in the final minutes lJ'f'T'l1fg21.lTlC and the lndians went home with another game to their credit with a score of 51 to 37. Ford scored 10 points for the Pi- rates and Kliller dumped in 18 for the lndians. Back to our own floor on Xovemher 21, to win our second gyime from the Lincolnyille Cioldhuggs, hy a score of 52 to 46. Pottenger led the Pirates with 13 counters while A. Pef- ley racked up 18 points for the Goldhugs. The Linlawn Pirates again met defeat as thi- Alumni edged past to win in an exciting over-time 49-46. Custer and Barnett had 12 counter- each while 'lTloldie Pottenger collect- ed 14. Back again to the victors' column marched the Pirates as they heat Laketon in a rough and tumhlv- overtime game, 47-43. Ford pushed rhrou.ggh 13 points, as Piper put in 16 points. On Decemher 13, the Pirates traveled south to Swayzee. where they were overwhelmed hy a hot shooting Speedking Five, 52-41. Pach lanky center scored 10 points for the Speedkings and Ford took scoring honors for the Pirates with 12 points. The Howardmen played host to Lincoln- ville and trounced them hy a score of 63-37. Rex Neilson. hot shooting guard. poured through 17 counters for the Pirates while Yan- landingham tallied 19 for the Goldhugs. The Pirates stopped L'rhana's eight-game winning streak in an exciting overtime. 53-52. Doc Baer took top honors with 18 points to lead the Pirates, and Dawes tallied 22 points for Crhana. The Pirates added another victory to make it 5 wins and 4 loses as they defeated Somerset 45-23 on the Linlawn hardwood. Curly Ford hitting from all over garnered 18 points. Dick Bovunan stellar guard hit 4 field goals and the same number foul shots for 12 points. ln the County tourney, the Crhana Speed- kings avenged their earlier whipping by edging out the Pirates 51-47. Pottenger led the way for the Pirates with 15 points. while Olmstead hitting long shots from all over tallied 15. Ches- ter won the tourney easily hy defeating Lincoln- ville, Chippewa and Laketon.
