February 6, l872 - January 23, 1945 President Linfield College - - l906-l93l President Emeritus ---- 1931-1945 He 'needs no monument, no marble shaft, Whose life is spent for truth in noble cause- Let massive mausoleum mark the pause Of greatness gained by cold and greedy grasp, But he whose vision shapes to worthy deeds Builds through the years his lasting cenotaph Of stones that perish not and mark a path That others follow, glad the way it leads. This- man-shut in with work, as friend with friend- Ears dulled to calls of trumpets made of clay, Brought all, his all, in love for human kind, To God and church and school, for soul and mind.
