We appreciate it, Clancy! The high school and community are proud of our ambitious and successful Chi Hi bands. The pep band encourages school spirit in support of our football and basketball teams. The concert band presents worthwhile music at their annual fall and spring concerts. The marching band represented the community in the American Legion parade at Golden Valley this past summer, where they took first place. The band marched in other parades of the surrounding communities as well as for the Lindstrom Water Carnival parade. At the homecoming activities the band swung into orbit with a swing-band half-time show. The band accepted again the invitation to participate with one hundred other bands in the High School Band Day activities for a University of Minnesota football game. At the Minnesota State Fair the band took first prize in the Parade of Pep Bands in competition with ten bands. The prize was a beautiful trophy and a check for one hundred dollars. This year, as in recent years, the band finished off the school year's activities at the Music Festival. The festival was held in Forest Lake on April 10. 1959. Stu- dents displayed their talents in various instrumental en- sembles and by playing solos as well as in the band. Compliments of Ko hn Chevrolet. Lindstroi ROW I. (left to right): Kathy Kennedy. Shortly before the concert the choir went Christmas carol- ing. performing their concert numbers at the Bethesda Home for the Aged, the Chisago Lakes Hospital, and the St. Croix Memorial Hospital. Then they re- turned to school for a mistletoe dance. After Christmas, the choir had more re- hearsing to do for the spring music con- test, (at which they were rated with an A ) and for their spring concert. Fol- lowing this concert, the season ended with the melancholy notes of r'Halls of Ivy sung by the seniors. Compliments of Cold Storage and Community Meat Market, Lindstrom Compliments of Ray Nelson, Motors, Lindstrom The season began with practice two weeks before school started with a few lettermen returning from the line, but with an experienced backfield. The first two weeks were spent in preparing for the long season ahead. The first of our nine games was with Chisago. Here our inexperienced line could not hold the seasoned Chi- sago backs down, and we lost 33 to 13. The team next ventured to Taylors Falls, where we showed a little improvement, but still needed work, as we beat a mediocre Bluejay team only 13 to 6. Our coaches, Mr. Randall and Mr. Schneider, knew that we could not beat a powerful team like Moose Lake with play like this, so we worked very hard on our block- ing and tackling, that week. Although the final score does not show it, the game was very close, as we had the score 13 to 12, in the third quarter, with the ball on the 8-yard Jine, but could not score. The Lakers then capi- talized on our natural letdown and made two quick td's making it 26 to I 3. Coaches Chuck Randall and Dava Schnaidar with Captain Jeff Johnson The high point of the season was at North Branch the next week. This time the team was really up. Lief, Jeff, and Kent all made breakaway runs of fifty yards or more, and the team really looked like a football team should. One person remarked, It was the most interesting game I've ever seen, professional included. The final score was 27 to 13. After the victory with North Branch. Chi-Hi traveled to Forest Lake. There Chi-Hi was set for another victory when luck ran out. All five seniors were injured early in the first half. Despite the injuries. Chi-Hi held the Forest Lake offense to three touchdowns. The final score of the game was 19 to 6. Then the disheartened Bulldogs, still suffering from injuries, lost to Rush City 21 to 0. This was the poorest game that Chi-Hi played all season, with Rush City hav- ing an easy time to reach the qoal line. During the next two weeks the Bulldogs won two shutouts — one against Pine City, I 3 to 0, and another against Fridley, 27 to 0. Chi-Hi ended the season with a heart-warminq vic- tory at St. Croix. Assisted by the hard running of Jeff Johnson and Kent Alden, the team played one of the best games of the season, defeating St. Croix by a score of 27 to 7. This qame ended the high school careers of 5 seniors: Kent Alden, Garice Anderson, David Erickson David Johnson and Jeff Johnson. 5% FRONT ROW. (Left to right): J. Preisler. J. Grendstrand. G. After a 99-65 loss to Rush City, the Bulldogs came through to dump Pine City 72-62 and Chisago City 78-48. Chi Hi fell behind North Branch 75-60. The fighting five lost to highly-rated Forest Lake 66-59. The Bulldogs got on the right track again by trounc- ing Taylors Falls 77-57 and Fridley 61-20. Rush City proved too much for Chi Hi as they lost 68 41. But the Bulldoos beat Pine City 72 62 and Chisago City 68-49. The last two games of the regular season Chi Hi lost to North Branch 75-62 and to Forest Lake 77-53.
