Commencement May 17, 1971 The invocation was given by Dr. L.R. McDonald, President-Elect of Lindsey Wilson College. The Lindsey Wilson Singers presented two numbers: HA Charge to Keep I Have and There Is A Balm in Gilead . Commencement speaker was Dr. Donald Herron, Minister of Southern Hills United Methodist Church, Lexington, Kentucky. Dean Hurshel Toms presented the candidates for graduation to Dr. John B. Horton, who conferred the Associates in Arts degrees to the graduates. Rev. Wendell Hurt, Minister of St. Mark's Methodist Church, Campbellsville, Kentucky, pronounced the benediction. Student Council wards Jack Coffey, above right, received the Dr. W.A. Weldon Award, which is given each year to an outstanding student entering the field of medicine. James Brockman, below, received the Elva Goodhue Award, presented each year to the outstanding science major of the graduating class. The Student Council presents the Golden Cup award to the SNEA Club for having the highest overall point standing of any other club on campus. John Chowning is shown presenting the cup to Danny Ellis, SNEA President. Mike Maloney, left, accepts a cup for Circle K Club, of which he is president, for participating in the most activities.
