The student population has usually been around 1200, including the sev- enth graders who come from elementwv schools in the area. This tradition has con- tinued as the attendance zones for junior highs have been changed, schools closed and opened. Table of'Contentsl3 As we approach the end of the tenth year of Lindsay's history, we note that education is still the most important activity here. Throughout the yearbook, there is always the influence of our classes, our teachers and administrators, and visiting lecturers. We still go on field trips, see movies, and learn facts and skills. We are always ready to participate in extra-curricular events, but we must also put up with our classes. After all, we are not graded on the number of clubs we join, or how well we can shoot a basketball. Colleges and potential employ- ers will want to know how well we did in our classes, even in junior high. We know well that if we misbehave, we may be subject to discipline, even if Mr. Navickas does not paddle everybody who comes to see him. 1977-78 was the year that the school board established in-school sus- pension for other junior highs, and is con- sidering setting up this unique type of pun- ishment in all junior and senior highs. LINDSAY STUDENTS PAY LOWER BUS FARE Bus fares for students who ride Pentran buses were cut from 2Ogt per ride last year to 1Ogt per ride this year. The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. William A. Anderson, made the a.nnouncement in August just a few days before school opened. The change in fares affects all students in junior and senior high schools in Hampton. The decreased fare is the result of certain federal funds being made available to Pen- tran by opening all bus routes to all riders. Previously school bus routes were open only to students, but this year they are open to all. Adults, and those students who ride with- out tickets must pay 3Ogt per ride. Lindsay students can be seen buying their tickets in the mornings before school in the school cafeteria on Mondays and Thursdays. Tickets are available in groups of ten for 51. OO. Fifteen buses are used to bring students to school each day, and to return home in the afternoon. Students come to Lindsay from as far as Fort Monroe and North King Street. 741 Bus fares J. F.
