Future Homemakers Of America This year, the Lindsay Chapter of the Fu- ture Homemakers of America is sponsored by Mrs. Y.D. Spriggs. The purpose of the organization is to help the individual im- prove her personal, family and community life, as well as to develop her leadership ability. The group meets once each month. For the 1976-77 school year the activities include a Chapter Project, collecting money for the heart fund, a bingo party for the elderly, field trips to the Art Gallery, and Wax Museum. Various fund raising pro- jects were planned to pay for the trips. Officers for the year were Janet Hawks, President: Stacey Washington, Program Vice President: Helema Ward, Recreation Vice-President, Secretary, Sonya Smith, Treasurer, Donna Fogging and Reporter, Sonya Swann. Band This year's band classes are directed by Mr. Charlie E. Nelson. There are four bands: the advanced and marching band, intermediate band and beginners band, and a stage band. Stage band meets on Mondays and Thursdays, and is com- posed of 18 members who are chosen out of the advanced band. The advanced band is composed of 82 students, the marching band 85 members, 25 students are in the intermediate band, and 60 students are beginners. Marching band performs at all home football games, pep rallies and parades, including the Hampton Institute homecoming parade and the annual Christmas Merchants parade in downtown Hampton. All other bands perform in the three annual con- certs, at Christmas, Winter and Spring, and with the Chorus for the P.T.A. Ad- vanced Band participates in the District VIII Band Festival. At the end of the year the band plans to have its annual spring picnic.
