NATIONAL BUSINESS Our genial Principal, Mr. Kingsley. - -- -f f- .f-,,.-4zaaf,'gs,m5 Emerging from the Press Office is our be- loved principal, William Kingsley. He has been our chief magistrate, granter of petitions, and benevolent critic. Throughout the school year he has helped us innumerable times with our problems and disputes, In the office Miss Kathryn Graves along with her able assistants, handled the many details smoothly and efficiently. Tardy pupils and students running in hopefully With excuses signed by their friends made everyday an ,at Q.. interesting one. ll N JJ-J Our thanks go to the per X nelA9f tugqltress office along with our raxEe dq ' atibrr. .L J N U nf .lf CNNONL any Skye RXOJJ-'Awww X so 7 'I , JN ' f .A 1 - st , . Waddell Mr Burke Thompson, Mr. lay Shropshire, and Mrs. Lorraine Paul. lllustrating the district is our superintendent, Clayton A. Castle. Besides assisting the gram- mar schools and junior high school, he man- aged to survive our barrage of questions and demands. His two aides-de-camp, Mrs. Elva Beguette and Mrs. Virginia Green, the district secretaries, were able to maintain their sanity despite all our help. Also connected with the district office is the school nurse, who did most of the peering, poking, and patching during the year. The five members of the school board spent many long hours planning our successful school year. We wish to express our appreciation to all these people and thank each of them for their aid and assistance. 1' I , Rb, L 9- 4 plfffibl My JWJ WM M lun :fy f. ,wg Liftff ORLD REPORT GHS Our superintendent, Mr. Castle looke for the wers ur ma y prob too D lems e C.T.A. The Iunior Class of 1957-58 had a year filled with success. From the first dance, to the Iunior Play, to the Iunior-Senior Prom, and all the lesser activities in between it enthusiastically supported all of them. As was with other Iunior Classes, money was one of their biggest and most trying problems, but this problem was slowly dissolved by the preceding events and the ingenuity of the Iunior Class. The money-making ventures were discussed, directed, and ratified by the members of the Class Council. The components of this council were President Larry Pickering, Vice President Tom Taylor, Secretary Carol Ann Lander, Treasurer Sonny Flores, and various representatives. When one writes of the Class of '59, one cannot help but say something of its academic achievements. At every meeting of CSF a generous helping of 59'ers was found seated throughout the room. In fact, 35 per cent of the CSF'ers were Iuniors. Although the fate of the Iunior Class of 1957-58 cannot be determined, it is sure to be more of a success than it has ever been. SlUdYiY1Q their Algebra were B- Bflifd, B- HOIIHGS, Gnd I- O. Cantrell, L. Cranston, and D. Boyd looked for reference Davis. in the library. Since this years theme is composed of titles ot various magazines, a special section was naturally set aside for the Sophomore Class. ln the Table of Contents the list of the class officers was found. The President was Richard Cabello, Vice President, Ioan Anderson, Secretary-Treasurer, Diane Holmes, and Social Chairf man, Sue Hunter. This Sophomore Class lived up to all the standards set by previous ones. They learned the laws of parliamentary procedure, obtained pink slips, pestered their teachers, threw spit- wads, ditched, lost school books, and many other things just as the previous Sophomore Classes have done. Although the Sophomore Class didn't contribute as many members to the Scholarship Soe ciety as the other classes did, they made up for this by presenting a superb Sophomore Amateur Hour, sponsoring a dance, and various other activities. From whitewashing the L as Freshmen, they advanced to Sopliomores, proving that they could meet the necessary requirements expected of them and keep up with the pace-setting upperclassmen. The Freshman Class of Lindsay High School, though the youngest in the whole school, did have the most members. They started off with a bang, leaving some memories that will not soon be forgotten, Helping them were their faithful advisors and their ambitious officers. Heading their advisors was Mrs. McCullough. Helping her Were Mr. Boone, Mr. Durbin, Mr. Souter, and Miss Fahrendorf. The council consisted of the President, Nick Castle, who led the class through the year, as well as representing them on the Student Council, Vice President, Earline Waldron, who took over when the president wasn't able to be there. The great treasury was cared for by Treasurer Bob Holmes. Karen Allen was the Secretary, and Carole Myers was their informant on the doings of the Red Cross. David Bannister, Boys' Federation Representative, Pat Iackson, Girls' League Representative, Susan Williams, Home Room Representative, and Tony Valenzuela, Spanish Club Representative, were all kept busy. WHO' WHO The United States of America is run by a democratic government-of, by, cmd for the people, and we, the students of Lindsay High School, are grateful for our chance to carry on the work of the governing of our school in much the same way. The student cabinet has worked hard to make this year one to remember. It sponsored the Christmas Formal, meditated on and passed all expenditures for the school' year and coped with many other problems besides the day-to-day running of the school. The school was efficiently represented at the C. A. S. C. meetings, the Govemor's Traffic Safety Council, and the many other organiza- tions which required our school's representa- tion. I would like to take this opportunity to ex- tend special thanks, on behalf of the whole student cabinet to our advisor, Mr. Kingsley. He was always at our meetings helping us to plan our rallies, assemblies, dances and the myriad of other things which made up our school life. I-le was always there to help us in our school problems, financial or otherwise, and he was always looking for the betterment of the school and school life in the interest of you students. I am sure that all the members of the Student Cabinet will be better citizens for their train- ing received this year. Seated: I. Newman, P. Boyes, A. Danielson, S. Butterbaugh, L. Bridges. WRITE R' JOURNAL By the appearance of this magazine you can tell that much hard work has been put into its making and publica- tion, Not only in the long hours of work overtime but also in thought and care. Beporters run madly here and there to interview a person for their import- ant articles and staff members dili- gently type the mats or run the multi- graph in order to publish their issue on time without delay. And the students look forward to the weekly publica- tion on Fridays. Eroin behind the cover, Echoing L, comes the editor, Gary Bohnisch. It was through his effort, and the help of all his staff, the commercial depart- ment, and advisors, Mr, McFadzen and Miss Eahrendorf, that they have made a delightful change from the battered pages of years gone by. Every important happening through- out the year has been written in its stories and articles and the Echoing L, bound by its hard work, shall for- ever echo loud and strong in the hearts of all at LHS. Aristotle once said, Teaching music appreciation is much different from using music as a means of obtaining genuine pleasure. Real enjoyment of music comes from the ability to sense personality and mood. Wayne Kemper has 'proven this beyond a doubt through his superb direction of the L.H.S. Chorus. The Chorus students have a chance to show off their work before the public once a year when they combine forces with the L.H.S. Band to present the annual Band and Chorus Show in the spring. Everything that is within our district cannot survive and prosper without agriculture. Therefore, a good agricul- tural course in our school becomes almost imperative. Lindsay High School has met this necessity with an excellent program. This year the F.F.A., under the skilled guidance of Mr. Smith, was very successful. At the Tulare County Fair the members of the F.P.A. placed very high in the agriculture classification. In its other activities the Ag. boys also were very successful. This Federation has a membership which in- cludes all male students enrolled in Lindsay High School. Each year the board of trustees allotts a sum ot money to this organization for the repair of damages which might befall the school. As the damage is usually small, the money that remains is spent on a project. The type of project this year had not been released at the time of this writing, but whatever it might be, it will benefit our school. The cabinet which governs this body is headed by President Rick Ferrier and Advisor Mr. Hanigan, To assist them are Brad Holmes, Arthur Morillo, Gene House, Larry Kreisel, Don Erwin, Ron Oakley, and David Bannister, The projects ot this Federation are examples of what fine young men can do for the better- ment of our school. Iohnny Shuken and Penny Boyes headed the next groups of dilligent workers, These people studied hard so that next year they might be able to take over the responsibilities as the most linguis- tic persons on the staff. The cub reporters for our 1957-58 publication were led by Terry Moore, the youngest assistant editor. The last Friday in every month was reserved as a day of rest for our Weary reporters, and on May 5 the whole staff gathered together at their annual celebration. Spanish Otticers, B. Montijo, I.
