Now the time has come to make a landing for we have reached the end of this year's journey and the seniors have come to their final destination, graduation. The following pages tell of the carefree joys and the obstacles that the passengers and pilots of our rocket ship had during their journey through space, The spacemen had a few difficulties, but with the aid of the faculty as pilots we made it safely to our destination. The seniors enjoyed the best view and the most privileges for this would be their last journey. The juniors en- joyed the prospect of soon becoming the top passengers on the space ship, and with this goal they went smiling through the year. The sophomores teased the freshmen. The freshmen were happy and carefree because, after all, weren't they the youngest on the journey and the least responsible? The joys, the sorrows, and the light-hearted laughter of the passengers and the pilots have all been recorded in the log book of 53-54 for us to look back on with many happy memories. ii ,..., ,Q ., - . . tl, Qt yu, Z Hll UH AW!-HHH Our highest honor we oword to Mrs. Ketelsen who by her many services helped s eed k h' year, p our roc: ets up through the space of the lost Congratulations, Mrs. Ketelsen, on receiving the 1954 honor owcrd. - u .2 M Q Q 'Q COSMIC COMMANDERS x5 X W' 'VX sXXx XXXX , J QX 'fi ,-.A QQ W 5 A? The stars seemed close to our primitive an- cestors, but, as the centuries have passed, new means have been discovered which measure distances almost incomprehensible. Our imaginations are tired by the descrip- tions of space ships and the possibilities of mans venture away from the earth to the moon, and even to other planets. In the light of our progress who can say that such a feat is impossible? May our Lindsay High School graduates of l954 be inspired to advance in harmony with the endless opportunities which are afforded all people in today's world. CLAYTON CASTLE Superintendent Supreme Commander Mr. Castle, who made sure we rode smoothly through the year, was our superintendent. w.,,,v Ilivisinnal Ilnmmander Let me aboard this Comet and let me travel through space with the rest of you. l want to travel on and on, in your memories, in your heart, beyond that which we can see into the distant future. We started together, we have been togeth- er, but now some of you are taking a new path up the Milky Way of life. To you, we wish you well. Others are changing to some other planet, while still many more are stay- ing with this Homebase for better or for worse, I guess l will be one of those staying, but somewhere out there in the open spaces of the future, we can all meet in the Spirit if not in reality and talk over the great and moving events of l953-54. Cut loose the anchors, open the throttles, so we can get out and away far enough to look back on all that has happened. May we forget those rough spots, the few uneasy hours, and remember only the happy, the tried and true as we journey on and on and on. ZAFON A. Co- medians and a clay sculptor sent them into ever mount- ing laughter like space ships being rocketed to the skies. Musicians played, and artists sang and danced. At a meeting of the staff last fall, various themes and ideas were dis- cussed. lt was decided by the entire staff that space or science fiction as some call it, should be the theme of this book. We have worked hard and have tried to develop the theme in a way that the reader will feel he is on this rocket ship traveling through space. The literary staff has used space terms in the titles and articles and has done its part well. Celia Webb was our expert typist and did all our blocking and typing, The free forms, the color of the book ,and the divi- sion page drawings were designed by the art staff to create a feeling of space. The photographers put in many hours taking and developing pic- tures while the business staff did a swell iob on the finance end. We had our meetings on the last Friday of each month and we learned some snappy Spanish songs, and some of the native customs of the different Spanish speaking countries. At our Christmas meeting we broke a pinata and had a swell party to boot. Then on the fifth of May we had our event of the year, our Cinco de Mayo banquet. First row: N. Brissenden, P. Upper right: Joe pitched rr no hrttrr this year lower: Ron put the tag on Larry, , 5' Star Swingers This year's star swingers were sparked by Joe Morillo who pitched a no-hit, no run game against our arch rival Strathmore. The boys did themselves proud, whether it was sweeping star dust off the plate or keeping the stars out ot an ump's eye. Starting oft the year in first place, they finished in third. Many a close game was lost during the season while many were won. Many a home run was hit and many spectacular plays were made, worthy ot a place in the sun. Feared by many teams as THE THING from outer space, the Cardinals did a wonderful job and they look forward to a good sea- son next year. Frist row' l. Lowe, M Smith, J. Rachtord, L. Fultz, B.
