U Those first two were the dancing, Slflglng, gay, oblivious years . . . our merrymixer, dances to the music of Bob Zurke and Harry James . . . hearty Slnglflg in the dining room-carefree SOI1gS- Billy, and L'The Music Goes Round 'n Round for Dr. Boemer . . . rollicking days when the wind blew our hair and the sun burned our noses as we went on picnics to the Country Club and on riverboat excursions . . . Plctures on our desks of college men in tW99dS, and fraternity pins on our sweaters. There was a war in the world even thely but it was not our war. Not until. we were half-way through college did 1t come to the U. S. A., to us at Llndenwood. And the scenes shifted. Page 23 No longer was our physical education devoted to the glorification of our May Queen. It was for health and strength, for country and for victory. The lads with whom we used to dance now flew bombers at night, and the songs We sang were for them- He Wears a Pair of Silver Wingsfi and God Bless America? Instead of tripping down the stairs in new red shoes to meet our dates, we dashed off to end a busy day with war classes-radio technique, en- gineering drafting, personnel manage- ment. The pictures on our desks Wore uniforms, and our sweaters flashed with wings. But we do not lament. We are glad to make sacrifices, to do what we can- and we know there is much we can do. That is why our faces are thoughtful above our academic gowns. We feel prepared.
