Class I-Iismry 6- 46 In September 1940, 239 lively 7B's entered McKinley Jr. High. We were happy to think that our 'Elementary' days were over and we felt proud to be in Jr. High. However, after a few days of life as a lowly 7B, we realized we werehlt as important as we previously had thought. The months rolled quickly by, and in September, 1942, the senior high which we had dreamed of was co pleted, and many of us had home-rooms and classes in the new building, even though we were still in Jr. High. Soon, our graduation day arrived. It was a warm June day and our spirits were high, but at the same time, we felt reluctant to leave our as Jr. High days and the fun we had during this time. Our class now'numbered 241. Our s mmer vacation passed quickly, and we realized in September .that we were the fourth class to enter Linden-McKinley Sr. High. That year we saw the Student Court organized, watched our sports grow, were thrilled by our orchestra and band, and thoroughly enjoyed the plays given by the dramatics department. We attended the noon dances and movies, and also the variety shows and auditorium programs. The G. A. A. and G. R. were rapidly growing, and they held several parties which were very enter- taining. The school year 1944-1945 brought many new things. A stadium drive was begun in order to receive the necessary funds for building a stadiu in which our future sports events would take place. We watched the pro- gress of our football team, and followedoour five pretty cheerleaders in giving enthusiastic cheers for the boys who fought so hard for the glory of our school., The basketball season was not too successful, but that didn't keep us from being proud of the boys on the team. The first Senior Class play 'Ramona' was presented and we hoped that this might become a tradition. A new track team and baseball team were organized and we witnessed the win- ning of the District Tournament Championship by our baseball team. A spring concert was given by our orchestra and band letters were distributed. Our senior year proved to be the most eventful of all. Our athletics were constantly growing and becoming stronger as our teams competed with those of other high schools. We elected our football queen, and later, a basketball queen. Both were crowned at sport dances given at the school. Christmas approached, and the G. A. A. held a dance in the gayly decorated gym. As we became l2A'g we'elected class officers whom we felt were worthy of these honored-positions. The yearbook staff worked unceasingly to pro- duce the traditional yearbook. Spring appeared and with it came an operetta, 'The Chimes of Normandy.' Soon.we were planning for the prom, and practicing for graduation. Our class has dwindled to 171. Many of the boys had joined the Armed Forces, and some of the students left School for other reasons. Now, as we are leaving school, our thoughts return to the good times we'w had, and we hope that those who come after us will have just as much fun. We wish to thank our teachers for the guidance and understanding they have given us. We are proud to have been able to attend Linden-McKinley Junior and Senior High School and hope that we have been worthy of it. 42EfQuh 1zQ2Qaoa 31 1
