Four short years ago-there dawned upon the horizon mf the faculty of LMS, a hundred and one frightened, spindly, and wholly inadequate pupils. What a struggle! What a battle! what a victory! Now fifty-two of that same regiment, who began the struggle are now about to -graduate and receive that coveted diploma. D 1 These years have passed rapidly, but each year is packed with tender memories to be for- ever cherished by this departing class of Linden-McKinley - It seems as if only yesterday that we were receiving our Junior high diplomas. and one eager faces listened to the commencement speaker, TGod that he was living in America and that he was able to without the fear of being bombed -- ,Ns thrilled to the thought that we were now ready to our years of schooling, those in high school. A hundred each giving a silent prayer thanking attend Linden-McKinley High School enter the most important part of all - - .Let us recall some of the many experiences for which we can never forget at LMS. Ours was-the third class to enter the new high school. We knew that as we grew to be the men and women of the future, so would our school grow to be one of the best in the city. , In our sophomore year, our class saw a football team take form. We gave cheers with the cheer leaders. Our heads were held high when the newly formed band paraded down the field. :Under Mrs. Hayes' guidance, a Glee Club, ensemble, and a mixed chorus, all came int. existance, whose heavenly voices still ring in our ears. Then came Christmas and our class had a JChristmas party. The dramatics department became equally outstanding by winning second place in the Ohio Speech contest. The variety shows, auditorium programs and plays are but a few 'of the things which will come into our minds when we speak of our Alma Mater. Father time is moving with us for now we're Juniors with half the battle over and on our last laps toward victory. Many or that regiment of a hundred and one had lefm the struggle. 'Some answered the call of Uncle Sam, others gave up. The boys and girls that remained in 'that regiment still had the old fighting spirit that they started out with. In this short s period of time, which we refer to as our Junior year, there were school events and happenings jmich can not be excluded from the memories we will take when we depart from Linden-McKinley. ,Remember our Junior hayride! How can one forget the laughter, jokes and songs that were sung as we rolled along. our football team was improving. We beat Central! The band was estab- flishlng the name of being the best marching high school band in the citg. McKinley had its first senior play, 'Ramona'. We witnessed the first senior high graduation at Linden-McKinley. ' f At last, our regiment now numbering 52, but each one having the feeling of being victorious in withstanding the struggle which began four years ago, are now ready to take his or her place in this world as well educated men and women. Although we are proud and happy to be so victorious, there is a touch of sadness all about. To think of leaving our Alma Mater swells our eyes with tears and our hearts with remorse. The school events and happenings of this year will stand out for us seniors more than any other year, as they are the last ones we will ever be able to take part in again. Many went to the dance sponsored by the Girl Reserves ln the spring. 'Anne of Green Gables' was given in April. Our vacation months came and went ,line a strong gust of wind. we were back in school again and ready to put the final touches -on our high scncol education. Each of us felt that not only had we matured throughout these 'last few years, but so had our school. The gridiron crew of Linden-McKinley really proved ,that they had what it taxes when we beat Aquinas 19-7. The football dance and crowning of the queen will always be remembered. The GR's sport dance, skating parties will add to the manyunmories we are taking with us. But of all the events that have occurred during these last four years, none will equal our graduation week. The banquet, prom and most of all graduation day. - Now it is time for our regiment of 52, to leave Linden-McKinley and go out iJHD the world We are ready to put to use the knowledge and training that we have acquired during the past twelve years of schooling. Goodby, Linden-McKinley! This departing class shall ne'er forget you or the wondrous years spent within your por'als. by - Joan Warner l3
